Insane rain on the way, mold prevention idea.

A fellow member of RIU gave me an idea to get a canopy to use during the insane rain we have on our way. Question. If i put a canody over my plants during rain will the shade from the canopy fuck up their light sched? They are in a spot with ALL day sun, every hour the sun is up it hits them. I'm growing Nirvana NL and read ALOT of bad things about mold so I figured cover them during the rain. Input?

Use clear plastic tarp. It will reduce your lumens by a slight amount but nothing considerable. Still far better than HID lights :]
Just make sure you construct it like a tent so the runoff doesn't build up and burst on your plants. But i think that is kinda obvious
Good luck!

They dont have clear plastic canopies they are white, blue and other colors sooo during rain they will be blocked off from the top but sides will be open. Will this hurt them or should I try and tough it through the rain?

Listen to ^^^^ he knows .. If you have a tarp and access to tie it up DO IT !! Then take it down later to let the sun dry them. I have done this on patch by patch basis. If I can get there I try any thing to cover! Be warned if you let the tarp rest on the tops they can get smashed and look bad so I bamboo each plant if I can to keep the tarp up as it pours. Oh and less than a few inches is no big more than three inches I get antsy:?:

I use a 6mil clear on the exterior of my grow. It is thick enough to block out most direct sight, and thin enough to allow alot of light. When the sun is behind it, though, you can easily see the leaves' shadow on it. It would make an excellent top. I think I will do a simple pvc build out like a rollbar and cover the lid when the rain comes. THANKS FOR POINTING IT OUT!! I hadn't even considered it. With a due date in mid Oct, it will be a rainy mess in the PacNW.

PS This is with the film doubled up!

in the paint section of lowes or HD you should be able to find clear plastic "dropcloths" real cheap.

When it rains for long periods this time of year its the high rh that gives you mold, its around 80%+ day and night, so the tarp wont do much.Cut down trees that are now blocking sun now angling to the south, clear weeds/grass and shit around the plant base, try to give plants morning sun to avoid long periods where buds are wet.

i should have thought of this earlier-

but in the construction industry, especially masonry, building tents in the winter to work in is quite common. they use a material called DuraSkrim. it's available at any Home Depot,i think it's 10 mil and has poly rip stop cording impregnated in it, so it's very strong, and would easily last a few years if taken care of.

i think a 20 X 100 roll is about 125 bucks.
