Hey everyone! Greetings from the great state of Maine! I'm posting on behalf of the Compassionate Caregivers of Maine (CCM), your friendly northern neighbors. Wow, what a cool thing that MA has finally gotten on board with the MMJ movement!
First a little bit of background...
In the summer of 2010, the state of Maine was in basically the same exact spot that the state of MA now finds itself. We had a newly approved medical marijuana law ready to take effect on Jan 1, 2011 and there was a lot of buzz and excitement as the pioneers of the "now legitimate" industry started to break new ground on how the program operate, would be perceived and how successful it would be. What no one realized completely at that time was how many private citizens would have the desire and ambition to want to help their fellow citizens that unfortunately have a medical condition that qualifies them for a MMJ certification. Many of these folks literally can't grow for themselves and many can't afford high prices dispensaries charge for medicine. In Maine, a vast network of private caregivers has developed and grown into what I suspect is the largest source of reasonably priced, high quality medicine for patients in Maine. Nothing against dispensaries, but the caregiver-patient relationship is different, mostly in great ways. The MA law allows for caregivers as well, as anyone visiting RIU probably already knows. So we hope to be able to share what we learned and the resources that we have developed in Maine over the last 2.5 years to help out the MMJ community in MA as well!
We invite you to come check out Compassionate Caregivers of Massachusetts (CCMA) (www.massmedmarijuana.com). The sister site in Maine has proved to be the industries most popular destination site for all things MMJ related. Come create an account & join the discussion in our community forums! We are working on getting everything setup and will be releasing new features on the site very soon. In the near future, we will have volunteers answering the phones down in MA and hope to setup some community meetings at various locations throughout the state with MA folks running the org down there. If anyone is interested, give us a call!
Thanks!
