i am an HID guy but i had some crazy temps in my 20k watt setup a few weeks back and the girls were hating it. the heat just kills man i got it sorted out now but damn they were not happy and it was no where near the heat you are dealing with

No, they're at least 18" off of the laggers. They're just not throwing pistils like they should be. They're picking up but still are way behind the others so they may become bubble bag material so I can get a new cycle running by mid september.
As far as the purp strain, I think it may be purple urkel as I've seen a few journals and they look similar to those. Shit smells like hard candy. I can't wait until it's done.
Also, my res temps may be slowing me down too. I don't have a chiller (will the next time around). My res's have been around 84 degrees.

i was a HID grower for years and i had to shut down in the summer, the temps would fry my girls. it was heart breaking.

ive done it before in the summer with these leds. pics in my avatar of the 2liter buds were in the summer with the leds.
if you really think about it my theory dose make sense? we will find out soon since i have some 180w lights on the way. we will see my friend?

you need to get those res temps in check your losing so much O2 to ur roots its not even funny. ur really hurting yield for sure. frozen ice bottle or something brother. u getting brown roots or slim?

i am gonna do journals for my other 2 20k watt medical grows the one i have right now had so many issues not worth writing about haha stupid assistants fucking shit up
i like the idea of LED for sure, but the upfront cost is just too much for one of those panels i can have like 3k watts of HID almost if the price ever came down for those 500w panels i would be down to test them out, but with vertical growing gaining popularity LED's lose their advantage of directional light and makes up for HID downfall the loss of light due to horizontal light position. also if CMH works in higher wattages lol that fixed all HID issues. i think in the next year or two grow lights are going to have drastic changes where LED and HID are in the same price range and in great competition.

ya bro led are not cheap, but i will say i have yet to do a grow that my 1st run paid for more then the units in savings from buying meds. but the up front cost is what gets us.lol
led is for a more quality thing, it will yield the same or a little better then HID watt for watt but just better quality.
i wish the GLH company will come out with a vert led because i like very allot. CMH is another great way to grow good quality and pretty cheap. i have friends that use that. IMO a combo of HID and CMH dose great. but IMO CMH mixed with led will rock things out like no one could think of, so much spectrum for the girls its not even funny. cant wait for to see what plasma brings to the table? those are real pricey.
the 500w isn't too bad on heat its hard to say though because i have good ventilation so it dosent raise my small room too much. IMO for you case i would go with the 180's or 290's over the 500's, just more spread of light and cheaper cost for the foot print.
you should Google my user name something like "irish boys led grows" i have tons of journals not on here that you might like? my best yet was 19oz from 4 plants with a 1st gen 600w spectra panel. used the GH Lucas formula. i also did a 600w 100% organic led grow, lost yield with organics but the quality i gained was out of this world. insane bro!

i agree i think CMH vertical with LED side lighting or top lighting would be an incredible grow. i would set it up in my test room if i had a supplier that would hook me up with panels. i have enough HID shit laying around not in use right now lol. those yields off a 600w is great its hard to get that yield with an HID 600w that is impressive. after i finish the little projects i have going now and see how this CMH flowers i want to test that LED theory. vertical LED would be insane it would be so easy for a company to make that im sure. they could design it with a blow through fan design to cool it with heatsinks down the center and make them linkable you could have a ceiling high vert grow just little towers of bud haha.
the plasma lighting is insane from what i have seen very very small light with crazy foot print, but technology is too new to be cost effective maybe next 5 years that would be in the running like LED is now

its hard to make a very leds and get that 360 degree effect. that might be a DIY i can make some time? its allot harder then it sound though, ive seen 1/2 ass ones but you need a full 360 degree one.
ya plasma is way too much ive seen smaller grows but was never that impressed.
led are really cool when u get to test them out.lol. but its hard to be a tester without a long history of posting grow journals. most company dont want to lone a a few G's and not know. i know the GLH spectra guy use to do that but a few people took the lights and ran, so he put a stop to that unless the grower was trusted with a long history of grow or allot of respect from many growers. i do know he sent out a ton of test lights to lots of growers

ya i can see that people taking advantage of others trust is usually how good things get ruined. i have a good rep out where i am at in socal especially with a lot of hydro shops around here they have vouched for me in the past on things. i think my next test will be CMH vertical with 4 of those little LEDs you were talking about one for each plant like i have in my journal. that would be a very interesting mix

either way you must let me know if you do that because i would love to see that grow. crazy spectrum mix. the smaller units would be best for you. maybe a 180w over each of the 4 plants with a 400w CMH right down the center? the quality would be insane because ive seen both lights make some frosted buds. every one wants to led led with HPS or HPS with CMH but i always said led with CMH. GLH spectra also make 100w UFO's but i like the idea of 180's and thats what i am rolling with next week

Yea, I know. The roots are still healthy from what I can tell. I can't really lift them up right now because of the chicken wire (another mistake I won't make again). I can look up the tubes and they look fine though.
I wish I had the room in my freezer to regularly freeze bottles to do that but the wifey has killed that idea.

My plasma was only $700. It's a custom build from luxim. It's a 300w lamp. I got the 02 bulb which has an enhanced red spectrum. I'll probably grab another one when I have the money. On the next one I'm going to grab a horizontal ballast so I have more vertical room.
The plants under it look fucking awesome. A link to my journal is in my sig. I usually only post the led part of my grow in this thread but I can add a few since plasma has been mentioned.
