Irregular Light Pattern.

I've just begun to see some sprouting with my current grow, and due to irregularities at my place, I am needed to put my plants in my roof for at least 48 hours once a fortnight, it could be possible to place them near a skylight as such as we are currently getting 12/12 light due to it being winter. But if they do not receive the light that is necessary for 48 hours, what will be the results of this? Hermies, stunted growth, not as big a yield?

If you are constantly switching them back and forth from 18/6 (or 20/4, 24/0, whatever veg cycle you are using) to 12/12 and back, yes, this will stunt & stress your plants. 48 hours of 12/12 will start the hormonal flowering process in the plants, which must be stopped and reverted when it's switched back, every time.

Will your plants die? No, but you will definitely lose time and gain stress if you don't find a way to get them some extra light. It doesn't have to be significant light, 1 footcandle is usually enough to keep the plants in veg as long as the light cycle remains 16-24 hours.

Some strains will react worse than others, I've seen plants take months to revert back to veg once they began flowering.

Good luck.

I'm actually going to provide 24/0 light until they are about half the size I want then I'm going to put them straight into flowering for I'd say at least 8 weeks. But the problem is when I'm flowering, I'll be having to induce 48 hours of darkness every fortnight. What will happen to them when they are flowering.

I may not be understanding correctly. Why do you need to put them in 48 hrs of darkness every 2 weeks while they are flowering. I have never heard of this practice, can you give me some detail as to why you think this may be beneficial?

You will not be happy with what I am going to say, but if you put plants on a 12/12 light cycle, and then every other weekend when you have your children they get 48 hours of dark, you will hermie like a bitch. You cannot flower plants that way. Sorry. Surely you have a closet or something ?

Yeah I will be having to figure out a solution I was just double checking because it is my easiest solution. Thanks everyone who commented and thanks for the feedback, the plants have now sprouted and look extremely healthy.
