Is a 1/2 Pound per Light Considered a Good Yield?

Imo, your lights off temps are a bit too cold, unless last 2 weeks of flower. Should be about 75* min.

Humidity too low, unless last 2 weeks of flower. Should be 60/65%.

Since your in ac hoods, lower them a bit more. Use back of your hand as a guide. Hot, raise them, warm is about the sweet spot. I can get mine 1' (+/-").
Funny how different we grow. 75-76 farenheight is the sweet spot for lights ON in my room and about 64 is the lowest I like at night. But it sometimes gets a few degrees colder.

No added CO2 and ventilated room.

And I keep my lights (2x600hps) about 20" - 22" above the canopy. Farther for ripening.

The new 315lec is ending up around 22"-24" for me too. The non air cooled open vertical bulb and open reflector likely accounts for the similar distance as it has close PAR.

45-60% RH average through the seasons.

And I do OK ;-)

IF I let temps rise around 78 to 80 I notice leaf stress up top. And the final quality goes down.

It is all a balancing act.

Hello everyone,

I just finished my first real grow. I grew twelve LSD plants in soil under four 600w lights. I pulled 2 lbs dry. Would this be considered a good yield?
Congratulations. You should be very Happy. No the yield is half of a supposed average but so what. It was the first time.

I grow perpetual from seed and clones so my yield changes every plant. But 2 years ago they averaged 2 ounces dry and some nice close bud trim for butter.

2 years later under the same lights I averaged 4 ounces with the same seeds.

I get even more now from the same pots, water, nutes and lights. And he quality is still going up too.

Read, read and read. And I mean books and papers with data. And when you hear something on a forum. Make sure you know if it is good or bad advice first before you listen.

I feel results are achieved in this order.

Environment- Grower-Genetics.

A stable comfortable environment is more important than anything. I never push plants for yield. I just give them what they need only and keep their environment stable.

They like it to be pretty much just like we do. 75 and sunny with medium humidity. And a nice steady but light breeze.

This is my opinion. And every room and every grow can be different.

in my second hand experience, the goal was always 1lb (455g) per 1k hps. that was the threshold for "good". I know two guys who did a couple of grows at ~0.8g/w or ~28 oz/ 1000w HPS, but everything was dialed in. From what I've seen, I would call 1g/w the asymptote for HPS growing.

Just saying your light off temps are way too low. That's all
What's your basis for your opinion on this matter ? In sure outdoors temps drop way colder then 75 at night. Also I thought it was good to have a -10• swing when light go off.

Not trying to flame you just want to know some facts on your statement.

They drop cooler as the photo period is ending. Not during summer month.

Do it your way. No worries. I'm sure it's ok.

Peace
I was commenting on that too. Thank you for explaining. My temps and humidity and time period settings are all a compromise because of the perpetual. Plants of all stages all over so I keep a medium baseline for temp and humidity all round.

I get strong sativa expression I think from the stability of it but I would like to do full cycle runs and control everything like the proper season.

It would be expensive to maintain with the extremes in weather here. And I do one plant at a time mostly for our on hand meds law. Hard to appear in compliance.

Thank you all for the advice and insights. The plants were topped multiple times and received LST to create 8 main colas and were lolipopped twice during bloom.
From my reading, the sweet spot for lights on is 75-82 degrees. Lights off target is 65. Humidity no more than 50. this is what I followed for the entire grow.

Hey bud, don't get down on yourself :) The fact that you completed your first grow and actually have something worth smoking is commendable. My first grow was awful, and I would have given anything to have done as well as you.

A lot of people on these forums are bullshitters. If you follow grows from very seasoned growers on youtube and elsewhere, many of them don't hit 1gpw consistently with hid. Its not as easy as most of these folks make it out to be, but if you took them all at their word you'd think that 90% of them are hitting these lofty numbers.

So hats off to you :) it'll only get better from here as you dial things in

I just pulled 7 lbs off 5 CMH fixtures and it was my second grow. Next crop will be much better.

I don't know what anyone else's "personal-use" amount is.....Mine is about 21 grams of flower per month. So, MY goal is to grow only the most ridiculous, stinky, flavorful strains I can find. Yield is an extremely low priority for me -as long as I can come up with "about a pound" (inside joke) per year. That way, I can make some of it into concentrate (rosin) and have plenty of flower too.
But I don't want to smoke the same strain all year long so that means I need to have a few different flavors to choose from -which means that I'm likely to produce waaaaaaaaaaaay more smoke and concentrate than I can use in a year. Anything that gets much older than a year tends to start to change in taste and effect.
