Is a Hempy cup really that good???

I have propagated from cutting these, and more Pieris. I was wondering why the big difference in growth patterns? As you can see, one, with the most growth is in a Hempy cup and the other is in soil. Both were started the same day in the fall, both were rooted in perlite and under the same conditions. In a small aquarium with a heating pad for bottom heat, small fluoros for light and very high humidity. Temps range 60 nights to 72-75 days, Light is timed at 14 on 10 off.
Is it just the Hempy cup is that much better for growing?????

The one on the left has about 4" of new growth, it is in a Hempy. The one on the right is in soil and has about an inch of growth, you can just see it under the green leaves on the right side of the plant.
The red stem is typical of the new growth.

The one in the Hempy gets fed once or twice a day with a 10-15-10 fert and the soil one gets fed maybe every other day with the same fert. I'm guessing that the Hempy one has grown into the reservoir and really enjoys the feedings. The soil one started new growth first followed by the Hempy about 10 days later. Hempy was slow to sprout but has since really taken off.
I fill hempy till it trickles out the hole in the side and wait 10-15 minutes. Then I tip the cup to drain off any excess water leaving a little in the res. The soil one get watered thouroughly every other day with some overflow through the bottom holes. Once a week she gets placed in a bowl of water to be bottom fed for about ten minutes, just to be sure all the soil is properly moistened.

i dont have too much experience but in my opinion the hempy has much more explosive growth than soil. i had a plant in hempy that pushed out a set of leaves just about during her 2nd week of life every night using 1/4 str gh line. just be careful not to burn the bitches up. good luck

Hempy is the bomb. I switched over a few months ago and I love it. They start in coffee cups, then plastic coffee containers and finally 5 gal buckets.

Here is a pic of one of my hempy coffee cups.

And a hempy coffee container

you should use hydro nutes. you could use soil nutes.. I think some people run into problems if the soil nutes are organic. the beneficial microbes/bacterias don't do so well without the structure of the soil to survive in. hydro nutes would be better (unless your soil nutes are fully non-organic)

edit: you should be able to grow in the 44oz cup for some time! do a search for RIU member: AZ Grow this person knows hempy, sort of a say, hempy wise man! the thread should be somewhere around 1500 - 2000 pages long I believe. Be sure to read through the first 60 pages or so if you are truly interested. Very informative thread. (by the way, thanks again AZ Grow!)
keep askin though
bump bump bump it up!
