Is all metal halide created equal?

My question is concerning the light output of metal halide fixtures. I have been using a T5 for my mother room, I am switching to metal halide. Are the bulbs sold at lowes and home depot suitable for vegging? I already had a 175w metal halide fixture so I wired it to one of hoods but I have no bulb. They sell 175w bulbs at lowes i just do not know if the bulbs that come with MH grow lights are a special spectrum or something. Thanks in advance.

Well after doing a little research i found that the MH bulbs sold at 1000bulbs.com for commercial lighting are around the 4000k range. I assume the bulbs sold at lowes and home depot are near the same range. As I understand heat ranges between 3000-4500k are of little use for plant growth. Am I wrong here? Are the bulbs sold specfically for grow lights a different range closer to 6500k? Im just trying to avoid having to order one off the internet or taking a lengthy trip to the hydro store.

thanks

2000-3500k = Great for flowering
5000-6500k Great for Vegging

If the bulbs at Lowe's are 4000k I would recommend to buy the right 6500k online or at your hydro store.
