I can understand how some might be offended by Maher's comment, but I wasn't. Overall, though, I think people get offended too easily.

Why would you be offended when he said it? Hell, you say it hundreds of times each day in your personal life.
The black guys (friends of mine) I play basketball with at lunch every work day call me "nigga" all the time in fun trash talk...and I reciprocate...is that racist?

For the record: Big fan of Bill. He shouldn't have dropped the n bomb, but firing him is a bit drastic. The word isn't even in my vocabulary, I won't even type it in full.
Caucasians should never mess around with this hideously demeaning word, imho. And for those that prescribe to the "well THEY use it when talking about each OTHER, so why can't I??" mindset, well, you just aren't getting it, to put it as nicely/diplomatically as I can.
I've got family and friends (brown & black folks) that'll use this word in reference to me, consistently, and I'm not into it at all. Makes my skin crawl, frankly.
But it doesn't bother me, for some reason.
You say tomato, I say tomato.
It's due to you being a racist.
No, you say 'ni**er', and I say that you're diseased trailer trash. Previously banned, shameful diseased trailer trash.
LMAO!I'm NOT diseased. And maybe not some of the other stuff you said either.
So firing him would not validate political correctness run amok? What if it wasn't Bill? What if it was some right leaning old guy no one ever heard of? Same context and all?
I think he could have chosen any number of other words to get the same point across. I don't feel anyone should be saying it. I don't give a shit if you're black or not. It's directly tied to one of the worst atrocities in recent history.
Do I think he should be fired? Absolutely. Just as a wake up call to how far toward ludicrous "PC" has gone. If they rehired him the next month, that'd be cool too.

making jokes about slavery isnt being on your side.do you know the evils white people did to black people during those times? It 100% depends on context.
This is what I meant when I talked about the ridiculous "safe space hurt feelings" left...Bill couldn't be any more on our side and they're trying to ruin him.
Is it better to deny that it occurred and risk repetition or is it better to use satire to point out the initial cause of the massive division in this country?making jokes about slavery isnt being on your side.do you know the evils white people did to black people during those times?
rape, torture, lynchings, feeding black babies to alligators, sexual abuse and mental abuse.have you heard of the black holocaust?
and im telling you right now,he'd never make jokes about the jewish holocaust considering his mother is jewish and more than likely so are his bosses.

It ruined Michael Richards
Normal people don't laugh at the N word. Nor do I or my friends. If he had said that in public he would have got teeth knocked out. But since he's a paid liberal actor. It was a joke...only the 'normals' get....
Being unable to utter a word and calling it by its first letter is so childish and dumb, it always reminds me of the George Carlin classic: "Of all the words in the English language that begin with the letter 'F'..."
It's closely related to the euphemism treadmill, another idiotic target of Carlin's. RIP George Carlin.
