Is chlorine killing my plants?

What I find so funny, and I patiently waited for someone else to state this. But I guess i will have to be the one to say it. Chlorine is pretty much out as a water disinfectant. They now use Chloramine, which guess what, does not evaporate from the water when left sitting overnight. The entire chlorine debate is yet another minor topic in the botanical world which the cannabis forums and in experienced growers turned into a mythical beast that simply does not exist...........

actualy not many use chloramines. look up your city water supply. shows ph and ppm and everything good n bad in it. why guess we all have google. and yes chlorine evaps after about 24 hour. and some think RO machines take chloramines out and they dont. you need a specific carbon for that.

shes hungry. light green then tip burn means it cant eat somehow also the eagle claw shows me food issues. what and how it happened i cant say without knowing what and how you do what you do. can be a million and one things causing it.....have you searched yet to see what your city uses for water...contents?

what was the last 2 things you did to them...like food used and amount and pH of last 2 times you fed or watered.

Tap water doesn't have a high enough concentration of Chlorine to cause this degree of damage. Especially if your allowing it to evaporate for that amount of time. I can't say this with complete confidence though, every area is different. However if your tap water has this much chlorine in it I would complain to the city because it has to be some form of population control :P.

chlorine is food. it dosnent damage anything, our biggest ellement in our water that causes issues is calcium. its a bad source and supresses our good calcium. but this is more than just cal. its deff in many elements. defficiencies, also begin way way before we even begin to see with the eye and once it starts if not corrected it just snowballs.

he either has to hard of water. bad ph or not feeding enough. or waters to often not allowing medium to dry properly. whatever it is she isnt eating and is why its yellowing and then burns the leaves.

Hi there CW,

The Greener one is a plant i put in my room a few weeks ago, to check and see if i could work out what was wrong, as this plant caom from some were eles, with diffrent feed and soil, when the plant came to me she was 100% and nice and green, the feed i had at 1.6 on my EC gage and also the water was 7.8 going in but i dropped it to 6.5 6.7 to feed them, i have 600w lights all temps are good, ( or i am sure they are ) 28 - 29 lights on 26 - 25 off, Fan on slow, outlet and inlet computrised. Then she started the same way as the others i had already in my room, So i am sure its not the new soil i have, Has to be the water some how... As the older but smaller plants have been in there now for 8 weeks, When they first went in every thing was very good, i put a few seeds in first week and they grow nice to start, so i then put a few more seeds in and they all started to grow but then in week 3 every thing stopped growing and started to get really pale yellow leafs, cant see any root lock from over watering i am just puzzeled.....

ok try making a half dose of food. but first run water ph to 6. and ph food to 6 also. let this food set for a while to make sure th epH stays as is. like half hour to 45 min.
first run the water to see what run off ph and ec numbers are. but im gonna guess if you say you been feeding this then there is food in medium it just cant get it and pH is out. your ph to me is to hi for any medium for best OVERALL BALLANCE not trying to achive a max of one or the other we want them all even and it isnt hi like that. drop to 6 or 6.2 anbd yes a couple points makes a diff. each decimal is 10x stronger in ph.

ok so run the water a nd if ph is lower than what you been using with the food and water then keep going withg water and rechecking till its back to mid 6....like 6.3 or so/...then use the food after this and just give it enough to stay in the medium..yes run off will still happen but not all will come out. now it has fresh ph and new food set to right ph. over next couple days it should pick up. the older yellowing and damage may not fully return so ignore it. watch the tops as that is telling you what the current health and food supply is.

it seems to be alck off food for the slower lewaching of colour rather than a quick burn. usualy if we used to hot of food it will burn fatser as the ph drops out fater causing it to not be able tyo eat and being to acidic on the roots.

us guys-

when we put that shit together, use all manner of chemicals. if the plumbing in your house is PEX, lucky you, you've made a good choice for the future.
copper on the other hand, lays around on the job, gets full of sawdust, dirt, concrete dust, bugs, etc. then ol leaky comes along with his torch and smears ACID all over it to sweat the joint.lol, sweat the joint.

anyway, the underground is even worse. the water comes to your street via a large iron(ductile) pipe, that really gets exposed. they lay around all types of places, such as industrial type areas where they are warehoused, and on the job site. so it's oil, fuel, pvc glues and cleaners, grease, dirt, leaves, bugs, animals, feces, concrete dust(from the sanitary and drain work), etc.
this iron pipe has a self tapping valve they install at every lot, to install a smaller copper lead that supplies each individual residence.

when they get the main all installed(valved, and backfilled), they test it. for pressure variance, and contaminants. bet you can't guess what they use to clean the line? that's right, chlorine. massive amounts of chlorine. they main is valved so if a repair is to be done it can be isolated. think bucketfuls of chlorine per section. add until the system tests clean for biological contaminants.

then, how do they flush all that? good question. they open it up. until chlorine levels at the release source test within acceptable limits. through personal experience i would say they're not gettin it all. i can usually taste solder flux in a new house for two or three years.

imagine if the jerk down the sewer hole, installing the isolation valves in the main(that's what's down some of those holes, valves half as big as a VW bug), gets pissed at his boss and throws his half eaten lunch, and the resulting pile of shit down the line?lol

never done that.:)

get a pool test kit and test for free chlorine-

and total alkalinity.

buy the house filter kit, with the cartridges too.

ok that makes sence. but id think in my last place where the house was almost 100 year old and bad green pipes and leaves hard rings form on water lines left in bowls but yet i had perfect water.
i also do monitor that line flush and the reports on our water supply all the time. i do see whan they run the flush as it will change my pH but its still not jiving with the reactions i see here.
i get the pos and neg ions in the water so im leaning to that for my problem.

my tap unfiltered is at 6.6pH. ran through my hydrologic filter with a kdf carbon upgrade to catch chloramine..by the way you do need an upgraqde to catch that. reg R/O machines wont.
so the filtered water is at 6 or even 5.8 sometimes. so when i add food i expect to see it drop down close to 4 once i do full feed but it barley moves down as it did in last home
last home tap was 7 and filtered was 6.6
