Is College Worth It?

sorry but your point really doesn't mean shit if it involves getting in over 10 grand of debt. that you likely wont get a good enough job to pay off in a reasonable amount of time, such a debt will loom over you for decades....

I understand the dilemma in choosing whether or not to go to college. When I graduated High School, I was handed an opportunity to go to UT at Austin with a scholarship. Took some classes and dropped out. Too much work involved in being a chemist. Then later I tried going to a local community college for computer programming. Being a self-taught PC nerd, I already knew everything they were teaching me. I was tutoring 2nd year students and the like. Then I dropped out again because I wasn't being challenged. Then I attempted this online college thing a few more years later for business management. Boring. I have worked good jobs and I have worked bad jobs. And none of my education was ever brought into play. In my honest opinion, a college degree is only a piece of paper saying you know something. It just tells other people someone taught you what you know. I mean, I'm not negating the fact that there is some validity to college. Because in certain aspects there is. But in my own experience, it didn't help me. It just gave me a huge debt to the Department of Education that will take years to pay off.
On the other hand, I know a few friends who have earned their deree in certain fields, moved away to another state and are making high-end 5 figure salaries. I also have a friend who dropped out of High School, got his GED, and now makes a solid 6 figure income doing work from home jobs.
So I would have to say, that in the end, it just depends on the individual. Do what you find suits you. Weigh out the pros and cons to advancing your education. Do some research. Talk with your peers. College is a big commitment.

Lol I worked at steak n shake, it was my first job. One time on night shift, this hobo was falling asleep in the booth and the two waitresses were telling him to get out. Then he was in the bathroom for an abnormal amount of time, and the only two other people with me were those girls. So I said Id see what was going on. I go in there, the dudes half naked next to the sink... I was just grossified. I didnt even know what to say. I was 15 or 16, lol I didnt know how to deal with a naked hobo at 3 in the morning. So I acted like I was pooping, it took him about 20 minutes to get out of there.. Then they forced ME to call the cops(note I was on dxm this whole entire time), then the cops came, I hid in the dishroom, and the hobos were escorted out.
I kinda miss workin there lol I wonder if anyone I know is still up there.. I need a bacon cheeseburger.. Hmmmmmm


Anyways, yes college is worth it, Im getting my degree in psychology, I know Ill end up being a psychologist at some point, Im pretty excited. Way more interesting than my current cook job... Probably pays more too

Not going to college leaves you with so few opportunities.. Sure you could get lucky, know someone, and get a job and work your way up. Or just be a waiter your whole life. But thats pretty boring and repetitive. People in college also turn into hook ups getting you jobs and stuff from what I hear.. So you might as well.. Plus there is no way your aspiration is to be a waiter your whole life.. Thats just so boring.. I guess some people just get comfortable though..

For me, it was worth it. I finished my masters in 1987. The costs were beginning to get out of hand around 1981. I retired making dam good pay for a teacher. I enjoyed the career and have a great retirement program. Would I do it again at these prices? HELL NO!

Depends on your skills, motivation, education, and field. It's not like everyone who goes to college ends up getting a really good job with a lot of money, but that all depends on the things I just mentioned.

my brother graduated with a biology degree, and he is now selling life insurace. However, selling life insurace can payoff.

College is stupid, I went it was fun but it's a waste of time and money.

mhmm dxm i love it...... idk what im goin to do, im signed up for it so im just goin to roll with it, its free for me and i might get some free grants , so you know, as long as i dont get in debt , why not

i would say it is worth it. i got a degree in business finance and im in the corp world making some decent coin.

if i had to go back again, i would do chemistry or engineering. both of those pay really well right out of school.

i also went back to school later, about 22 and actually finished in 4 years. i wasnt super motivated out of high school so i went to work and then found out there was this glass ceiling since i didnt have a degree. i am very glad that i went back. shit if i did college right out of high school i would have been a history major since that is what i liked at the time. and you know how everyone says do what you like, pssh im glad i didnt listen to those people. college is a decision for yourself and no one else.

its free but its alot of stress, like i havent even started yet and im already stressed just trying to get everything in order.

if you made $11 and with a college you make $13 it would have been "worth it" lmao dude hit it right on the nail because that's a 5% increase basically which really is crap. i'm going to school but at the same time......fuck college.
