Is curing for improving flavor or potency?

Talking to an old time grower the other day. This guy was sort of my mentor.
He insists curing does little to improve potency. Potency is a byproduct of good genetics, mature trichomes and proper drying.

He says curing only improves taste and smokeability.

Thoughts?

I think the effects of some flowers will change with age after harvest. I would not throw anything away if it doesn’t have a strong effect immediately after harvest. Some of the THC will decarb if you just let it age a month or two.

My wife and I both noticed that some batches of flowers would make us “agitated” if we sampled them as soon as they got dry enough. If we wait longer, the high is a lot more mellow.

I myself, like weed the best,, when it has been thoroughly dried. Basically when the stem snaps. Its ready to go IMHO.

I do keep it in thick vacuum sealed bags, in Tupperware, with silicon gel desiccant, in the fridge. A year later, and its the same as it was the day it was put in there.

Curing is a science, and while the method adopted by the west is tried and true, I highly suggest going down the thai stick rabbit hole, research wise. The binding and burying of cannabis is a form of curing with wild results. I hope to see the practice explored more thoroughly by scientifically inclined persons in my lifetime.

While I agree it doesnt get more potent, it becomes much more smokable. I have smoked plenty of wet weed, straight off the plant, and its not very enjoyable imo

I've never found smoking any kind of weed to be esp flavorful. Frankly I dislike the taste of smoke, any kind of smoke. Even a fine cigar is... yuck.
I only smoke weed because I enjoy it's effect, and the way it makes me feel. As for the smoke, it's lost on me. Probably why I never smoked any type of tobacco in my life.

I am the same way. I dont know what people are talking about with weed taste. Ive had some worse than others, but its like black coffee or a beer to me. The abrasive taste complements the effects. I switched to vaping the majority of my weed intake for my lungs sake, and I will say the taste is much better, but not particularly unique cultivar to cultivar. Might just be I haven't perfected the elements of my grow/cure that would bring out the unique flavors, idk

I dislike smoke as well but I love the taste of cannabis so now I only vape concentrates. E-rig and some full spectrum live hash rosin or full melt is my favorite combo.

I like taste of menthol cigarettes and aromatic pipe tobacco but was never fond of or develop a taste for weed. Some people must have better taste buds when they can describe blueberry, diesel, pine flavors etc. Also, can discern no taste difference between cured in glass for several months and a bud just picked and dried in the sun for two days to test potency before harvest but still slow dry and cure in glass because it is a universally recommended practice.

Less water more thc in a gram haha.

But its just to stabilise humidity in the bud some clorofil to degrade stops being soo hard to smoke

Off course curing has effect thc degrade to cbn, more sleepy
