Sounds like fb contact was good in this instance. I know if my kid was murdered I would want the last person they talked to question, atleast to see what was said. Maybe the info provides useful for finding the right person, even if the last contact isn't the right person.
Facebook keeps message logs for 180 days. After that LEO is out of luck, and that pisses them off. There is a law coming up that is going to allow more e taps like old copper line taps. I won't tell you guys about the huge reel to reel tapes I used to see in telco central offices. That would probably make you paranoid.
Not exactly it depends on who you are and how badly that data is needed. Nothing is ever gone off the 'net, today. Nothing ever.
We are close to 100% digital. When everything is routed through the right data centers who needs court orders? Oh that's right, LOL, when you actually USE the collected data. But it's easy to wag the dog. LEO has been reverse engineering PC for stops forever.

i agree, if the police want it bad enough, theres not much you can do, especiallywith digital footprints, unless ur a computer genius that is smarter than the governments genius well then, ur secrewed, they will get whatever they want no matter how long ago it was, look at AP gettting records seized from may of last year, that should tell u everything u need to know about the usa govt. good luck

Ive had the fortunate situation to deny police illegal searches on phone records. They thought they could come into my store and just have me print out someones phone records without a warrant. He didnt like the answer of " get a supena(sp) from corporate"

kinetic I'm simply saying when all digital data flows through your controlled data centers you don't need ISP, Phone Co. or any one else's cooperation or records.
Certainly prior to using that information requires the procurement of a subpoena duces tecum but those are simple once you have the facts you just reverse engineer your request to the judge. Who usually knows and trusts you.

curious, the NSA cross cut fiber optic lines a decade ago and set up rooms inside of telcos to obtain info as it flowed through the telcos. Having installed the equipment that makes the whole digital thing work, telcos are in fact needed still to obtain info. The legistlation being written and implemented today is just covering what Mark Klein blew the whistle on a while ago. Also former NSA employees have been on nat geo talking about how the patriot act changed their directive to "actively listen on U.S. civilian communications".

The facebook is virtual high school...it can be very dangerous or very awesome....its destroys families and homes cause I've seen a lot of marriages fkd up bcuz of fb...but...I also reconnected w my old high school girllfriend on there and married her...we both quit the FB soon aftr becuz we are aware of its potential danger....I don't like the fb and I def wouldn't discuss weed on fb unless I was legal....it is very revealing

If they want you, there is nothing you can do other then run away and live in the middle of nowhere and start a small farm. Even then satellites will find you in a matter of days.

Yes and Hitler was delusional (can we at least agree on that?). The problem is for this to be paranoidal ideation there has to be a delusion in the mix. Sadly there's no delusion here. I do not worry about this. If they want me they know precisely where I am. I have a few bits of security in place but nothing that would really deter someone who knew what they were doing and really wanted me.
I think kinetic and I agree we are just arguing about the nits which honestly don't matter. I think we can all agree government is the camel whose gotten it's nose under the tent.

And their nmbr one tactic is interogation...tricking u into telling on urself...half the time they don't have the evidence needed to convict they're just "fishing"....with a little questioning and scare tactics most will fold under the pressure...and that's what they bank on.....loose lips sink ships...wasn't me..idk..I wasn't there...that's not mine...stick to these phrases and ur chances of survival increase greatly...unless the feds are on u...they have a 98% conviction rate...if they're onto u..ur fkd
