Is it cool if metal bands wear masks and costumes?

I was wondering if you guys think that a metal band wearing masks and costumes is cool.

If they shred and aren't douchebags about it and can take a joke then I would say, as a metal aficianado, do whatever the fuck you want. I personally like how some bands, like Watain, will procure actual blood, guts, and severed animal heads for their show. Don't go see them if you are worried about ruining your clothes. Have you heard of Ghoul? Or The Berserker? All masked bad-assery.

masks, costumes, makeup should stay in the circus. if you're good enough you shouldn't need gimmicks.

Unless you can't play well and need a costume. In which case you are not a musician but an entertainer.
Also, if you ever get good ... don't you want people to know who you are ?

I think if you really are into music...you do it for the music. But if you are in it for the pussy....you put on make-up and make your hair as big as possible. Chicks dig douche bags....

For me, it all depends on how gay said masks and make up are. If there is some fag up there looking like Ziggy Stardust and singing shitty music, then it's not appropriate hahaha. But I mean one band in particular for me pulls it off and thats Slipknot, I mean I don't really see the need for it, but it is part of their show you know, and since the beginning for me they have always been like that. And they play well so they have nothing to prove.

Mudvayne is similar for me aswell, but they don't paint thier faces anymore.

Then there is KISS, what the fuck?! I hate that band I think.
