If I use organic hydroponic nutrients instead of using man made chemical nutrients, would I need to use a PPM/TDS meter?

For my past 3 DWC's i've used absolutely no tools. I measured the nutrient solution and that was it. Floranova and Superthrive. All organic and have never encountered issues.

im new to using this digital ph meter (HI 991404) hanna instruments anyways..

after i get it to say ok from digi calibrating in 7.0 which i can get it to do if i pour a little solution in a cup and then place the two wands in it and then run it and bam. but after that what is the best way to start measuring my ph levels in my water should i wash off the wand with sink water ?? so thers no 7.0 bs going into the water that stuff smells like mouthwash.. someone please tell me thanks..

The bottom line is to get best effects and know what is going on inhydro you must have a ph meter and a ppm meter otherwise your guessing and will not know what your potential is or your problems should they arise. Can you go without maybe its physically possible but its a waste when a few bucks will benefit you a million times over.

Vegas not sure what kind of device you got. Most are simple pem type meters with a digital display. You calibrate using both 7.0 and 4.0 solutions. You dip the tip in 7.0 solution and see what the lcd reads and then use the adjust screw to make sure its at 7. Then rinse with tap water and dry off and then repeat with 4.0 solution. Then your good to go. Check every week or so and see if it drifts it shouldnt but check. Some meters say store the tip in a storing solution to preserve the accuracy. Then in hydro keep ph at 5.8 or in aero 5.5 and follow your nutes ppm levels per week and your good

Spend about 30 to $50 on each!! If you don't get them you will be buggered period!!! Must get calibration fluid for both as well but only need to get the 7 ph one. They have two types for ph calibration but one is ok and that is what I do. If you get a crapy tester you will not win this game. Trust me and last your ph and ppms will fluctuate period! more than you know especially since if you do it right when you change, clean your rez, every 14 days!!! and keep the water in the dark!! Nutes will bounce your PH simple as that then the next day it can be totally different. You can't even start really without PH and PPM testers or you will never know why they are dead and well gl....
