This is my second grow and 1st one I let it stay in veg for 3 months and plants grew wayyyy too tall lolz. So I wanna make sure I do it better this time. When do you normally switch from veg to flower? Based off plant height? Or something else?

Height. They will sometimes double in size after you flip to 12/12.

Consider the amount of vertical space you have to work with without the plants growing too close to the light and getting burned. Flip to 12/12 when they're halfway there or a little under to be safe.

Consider a little light LST on those girls. If you pull the tops away from the center of the plant you'll expose more side branches to light and those branches will take off.

You'll get more in the end, just don't go too crazy with it your first time.

You can’t flip the light though until it reveals its sex correct? The little 2 white hairs(pistils) on the edge of the node I think right?

You can flip the light whenever you want. Some guys grow 12/12 straight from clone or seed. If they haven't shown sex before you flip, they will soon after.

If you're maximizing your space, you'll probably be flipping after they show sex anyway. Unless maybe you're growing in a tiny area.

I grow in a 3x3 tent about 76 inches tall

I don't have much experience with LEDs but it's a simple formula:

1. Raise your light as high as it can go in the tent.
2. Measure the distance from the light to the top of your pots.
3. Subtract the amount of space you need to keep between the top of your plants and the light (maybe 18 inches for those lights??)
4. Now you've figured out the tallest height you can let your plants grow to, flip to 12/12 when they reach half that height.

The life cycle of cannabis can be broken down into four primary stages from seed to harvest:

  • Germination (5-10 days)
  • Seedling (2-3 weeks)
  • Vegetative (3-16 weeks)
  • Flowering (8-11 weeks)

I hope this helps. Maybe, save this information somewhere. Happy growing

if you're using LEDs, distance matters and a HUGE help when using LEDs is an IR temp gun.

I only use LEDs currently. In seedling/veg I keep them 18-22" from the top of my plants.
And in flower I keep them 13-18 inches from the top.

Wattage plays a huge role. All of my LEDs are between 100-130W actual wattage. The higher the wattage the more distance you'll want to avoid light burn/bleaching.

If you have any questions, ill help where I can. I grow indoors, tent grows, with LED lighting and soil.

If you are new to this, I recommend smart pots (fabric pots)

Very hard to overwater which most new growers do very often as they're eager to take care of their plants the best they can.

Hey everyone,

sorry for asking a dumb question but so much info on the internet and there are too many answers. My plants are officially 3 weeks going on 4 weeks. From the picture below , would you consider it in vegetative stage?
Yup. Isn't considered flowering until you've flipped lights to 12/12 and your a week or so into that.
