I just started growing a few weeks ago and my plant has just started growing a new set of leafs. but the first week I didnt have good lighting for it, so it grew pretty tall(looking for light i guess) and now its about 5 1/2 inchs tall and the stem is very skinny, I had to make a little support so my plant would stay up stright. so is this normal? and how long will it take for the stem to get thicker so it can stand on its-self?

I also have my plant in a pot that is about 12inchs around and 3 1/2 inchs across, when should I move it into a bigger pot?

thanks for all the help guys/girls! and sorry for all the noob questions:-?

then tie it to a chopstick, pile up some soil around the base of it, and get a fan going on it. the stem will thicken up over time and you can repot it once its more stable. or repot it now and bury the stem up to the first set of leaves.

Be careful burying it I did that and it damped off. That's just a one time thing but it does happen. Just support it the best you can and keep it from stretching to the light any more than possible, Keep the light close and do get the fan on it. I tend to go from little pot to a little bigger pot and on until I get to the size I want. Only because I want it to concentrate on the foliage and not the roots. I would just let it get fatter first and then when you think it's root bound or close to it then repot it

when my seedlings get all tall and bendy and shitty i use plastic forks to hold them up. they work great. after about a couple days under primo conditions it should be able to hold itself

Ya, you deffinately have a lanky seedling. It is the lighting situation for sure. How is the lighting coming along? What type of system are you using? Also, What is the light sched.?
