is SHE ready to TRANSPLANT? Roots Organics 707

First grow Ever! Shes is 1 week and 2 days young and has a healthy root system developing. She is the only one that has survived out of 5 germinated seeds besides this one, , however, she doesn't look promising. I germinated all five of my seeds with the moist paper towel method and then placed them into rapid rooters. I planned to grow all 5, but it looks like its going to be just one. It's a learning process by trial and error and I have learned a lot in the past 3 weeks. My biggest mistake was over watering the rapid rooter and too much humidity. I had my babies in a dome for the first week and a half with and average of 76-82 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity at 50-70% which was drowning them. I think they suffered from root rot because i ripped open a rapid rooter and most of the roots were brown, they just weren't growing as fast as my #1 GIRL up top. I since then removed the dome and cut down to 73-75 degrees with %20 humidity. Took an entire day trying to figure out my light level (600w MH) and intake fan settings to keep this Temperature constant and steady.

As you can see on picture 3 and 4, a couple of roots are beginning to brown, but i am lucky she's survived this long with all my mistakes given.

So ... Does she look ready to transplant into my Roots Organics 707 soil? I've been told that the soil is too hot for young seedlings, which is why i did the rapid rooters; but she looks strong and ready to take on some organic soil. my plan was to grow these babies in 5gallon Roots Organics Fabric Pots, but since it is just one, with a potential of a second one, I'm going to grow this baby in a 10gallon fabric pot using the 5ml Master Feeding schedule from Roots Organics. I wont be feeding the soil any nutrients just yet, just Reverse Osmosis Water with a pH of 6.5.

So, is she ready? another day or two to make a solid two weeks old?

Well this should be a notice to all newbies why NOT to try to germinate your seed in a paper towel. Every day I read on this site stories of people who lose expensive seed on paper towels. Not ONE time have I ever read a story of a person who put their seed directly into soil where it failed to germinate.

I have never understood, nor has anyone ever explained to to my satisfaction, any logical reason to sprout a seed on a paper towel and then try to plant it. I guess if you are testing for viability on a large scale maybe. But generally it's a completely unnecessary step and hazardous to the health of your plants.

I have gardened herbs & vegetables for decades, and pretty much, you throw a seed in the soil, and it grows. MJ is not some special delicate fairy-like plant that needs to be coddled.

And Sam W I hope you put your one surviving plant back in a pot. The more you F with them the less likely they are to be successful.

Thanks for the advice AimAim. But the problem was not germinating the seed. all five of them germinated within 24 hours in the paper towel method. The problem was keeping the seedling healthy and strong. That was my failure. Also, my lack of knowledge that my Formula 707 was too hot in nutrients for young seedlings, which is why a placed a germinated seed into the rapid rooter. In your Professional Opinion, can and should i transplant my One surviving plant to 707 already?

And for future circumstances, what kind of soil is best to germinate and raise seedlings if trying to grow organic?

And Pass420? Bite what?

10 gallons seems lik ea lot unless you are going to veg for a few months. fabric pots dry out quicker and need to be watered a lot more than plastic pots.

OK so why do you like to germinate your seed on paper towels when it wants to be in soil. Just a question.

@ Pass420. Ha. i get it now. yeah, she's a bit wrinkled. I dont know why its growing like that. I dont like it myself either.

Aim, my first intention was to germinate in soil from the beginning and go all Naturahl, avoiding any shock of transplant. That is when i found out that my 707 was too rich and hot for young seedlings, hence, the rapid rooters. So, should i transplant my lone survivor to the 707 soil ASAP?

@ Jevus of Cannabis: I bought 5 5gallons fabric pots, but i was mistakenly given One 10gallon. and since i have one lone survivor out of 5, why not go all out with the 10? Ima' milk this baby for all she got. And yes, i know fabric pots dry out quicker. I will be on top of it 24/7. Thanks for your input.

Being a n00b, (like myself) I would listen to AimAim, and not germinate. I had 4 out of 5 sprout for me. (In dirt and water everyday till sprout) And even tho jesus of cannabis is correct about fabric pots, the only reason to germ in a towel is cuz someone is impatient to see growth, it is not good to handle the tap roots as anything could happen ie. you could damage it, have something on your hand and make the baby sickly, ect....which could be your prob...

First thing I learned was...NEVER GIVE A SEEDLING NUTES...it has feeder leaves (Cotyledons) that have all the nutes that baby needs...I wouldn't start nutrients until a second set of leaves are visable and healthy and then only a little at first to get them used to it...If you have soil that has nutes in it, then I would wait till it's about 2 weeks then start with mild nutes.

Correction: My seedling is ONE week 5 days, not ONE week 2 days. And looking at my pictures, it looks like it has 2 set of leaves already; no? So, should i transplant this baby into my 707 soil, which is light in nutrients?

Lol I started my 3 seeds into rockwool didn't PH them either.. 2/3 germ'd the third couldn't break its shell when I cracked it open the leafs where grown.

as soon as the seedling pops up above the rapid rooter plug you can place it in soil.

Yes. Get that bitch in some soil... You can get seed starting mixes to start your seeds in next time. Get a small pot, don't fill it all the way leave am inch at the top. plant the seed a half inch deep in moist mix cover with plastic wrap held in place with a rubber band. Keep it in a 78 ish degree room... Works every time
