Is the difference between indica and sativa effects all in our head?

No. Commercial cannabis is simply grown so poorly, that it's all the same.

Purps for a example. Has a specific flavor and compressed gravity feeling. I spent 8 years in a medical state full of purple bud and never experienced couch lock or the purp flavor until I grew GDP myself. Compared to the black market where purp always tasted like purp and always made you feel 2 ft tall and made of lead.

There's weed that will make you hallucinate, weed out that changes the perceived shape of your body, weed that puts dynamic hallows in your vision. Weed that slurs your speech. This stuff is all real. You're just not going to buy it from a dispo.

Science says it maybe.. What does the RIU family think?
Reading here and there I have seen that in many experts no longer make the distinction of the effect based on whether the plant is indica or sativa, now in many studies they are saying that the terpenes are responsible for the effects. There are sativas that are more couchlock than some indicas

What you see claimed as indica or sativa, especially on the big bulk seed websites, should be taken with a grain of salt. I agree it's more about the terp profiles, but typically a true, long-flowering sativa dominant line will be more energetic and up-lifting. If it's finished in under I dunno, 12 weeks, it's probably not as sativa as they're claiming.

I also prefer the BLD/NLD designations over the indica/sativa nomenclature most commonly used.

I can tell the difference in the strains I have. The sleep oil is indica I make is from Critical Mass. I made some for Ms DWW out of Chocolope. I it was like giving her espresso a bedtime. I also raises my blood presser. On the other hand, Critical Mass has the opposite effect.

I agree with MtRainDog. The breeders have messed with the strains too much. They are getting things so crossbred that they are ruining the genetics. Just like bananas. Did you know they used to have seeds? They were bred out. Nothing like the original. They Keep messing around taking things out that we are going to find out some day that we need.

There is no question in my mind the they are different.

Got to agree.

On a molecular level, all the cannabinoid molecules are the same, regardless of Sativa or Indica. However, there are other "flavors" (terpenes, flavonoids, volatile esters, etc., that appear in different combinations depending on the plant. Indica tend to have certain groups of these compounds than does Sativas.

I find that strains which have a lot of flavor and smell, tend to work better for me. I like flavors to stick in my pallet and sinus. One of my favorite old school strains was what we called blueberry...or sometimes skunk...or sometimes blueberry skunk. The flavor was strong. The smoke stuck to your clothes...patchouli oil, anyone? ;)

We used to get most of our weed from Mexico. We didn't know Sativa from Indica, if anyone asked, but being that most of it was landrace Mexican, it was Sativa. All those equatorial strains with long flowering days, was Sativa. It really depended on HOW it was grown. If it was grown well and allowed to fully ripen, there was no touching it in terms of flavor and quality. If it was grown poorly, it tasted like dry hay and sucked....but we smoked it anyway.

I've smoked beautifully-grown-yet-shitty weed and I've smoked poorly-grown-yet-fantastic weed. I'll take the tastiest weed over a pretty bud, any day -Sativa or Indica.
