I do about 300 reps of different types of crunches (difficulties similar to V-ups,jackknifes,leg raises and bicycle). It's starting to turn really easy now and I'm wondering if there's any harder exercises I can do that doesn't require any equipment or should I just increase the reps? The thing is wouldn't that just increase only endurance anyways and nothing else?

I just read an article recently entitled "10 exercises people do that are outdated" or something like that. One of them was crunches. It said they are in effective and hard on the back. They recommended planks instead.

I too was disenchanted w/ crunches. No matter how many I did, my abs ceased to be a bit sore the next day so I figured I need to somehow cross train them. Hello plank. I held that sucker for a few minutes a couple times a day and wowz. The next day I sure did feel ALL my ab muscle groups. Easier on the lower back too.

What is your goal?

You want to look like a marathon runner, more reps less weight. (run Forest run)

You want to look like a sprinter, less reps more weight. (sprint balls out til muscle failure)

If you are doing crunches, for real, stop.

Loaded abdominal exercises are the way to go if you are wanting a not only stronger, but a more defined midsection. If you want to just be able to do a bunch of sit ups and whatnot, just keep doing what you are doing. I dont find myself falling down to the ground a whole lot like when I was learning to walk all those years ago, so getting up off the ground isn;t something I train for lol.

You are obviously motivated to get yourself to the 300 mark. Should be easy for you to adjust to weighted exercise, and it takes less time too! Im in and out of the gym before some dudes get off the treadmill, and many never get the results they want and wonder why. Well, most are probably fucking up in the kitchen, not realizing thats where 80% of this battle is won.

And anything they do at a cross-fit, don't do, lol.

Hang on a pull-up bar and raise straight legs in front, Both together. Hold them horizontally for couple of secs, down slowly. Increase reps and holding time.

You could try street workout/bodyweight only exercises like V-Sits L-Sits, planche, back lever, front lever, and the dragon flag/dragon flys. I only do bodyweight never need any equipment except a pull-up bar sometimes.
