Is this a good find on exhaust fan?

Hey guys, I am looking around for exhaust fan styles to get a more effective pull through my carbon filter but they are expensive.

I found this guy on ebay, I sent the seller a message about the confusion with the contradicting statements about cfm.

Guess it would depend on how much air it moves/ to how big your room is & how much you need to move? Hope That Helps.

my bad. im a little slow. looks like its only 10 bucks to ship it. not bad. i would google the name/manufacturer of the fan and see what other people are selling the same fan for

I guess I didn't know people use Furnace fans for there grow ops... I wouldn't buy it.

why not, who cares what the manufacturer designed the fan for. its essentially a squirrel cage for for 55 bucks. thats a hella good deal if you ask me.

most are like over 2 bills.

the only reason it might not be any good is the sound it may produce.


this is a fine example of how the indoor cultivation industry has most of us growers by the short and curlies(or so they think!). they have most of us under the impression that if it isnt made for indoor cultivation then it wont work, that the more you spend the more you get, and if it has a cool name it must be the balls.

this fan should work just fine as long as your not trying to get in as High Times' trendy grow of the month.

well said bro. if you add a speed control in to the fan system it should help cut down on sound as well.

for only 55 bucks i might pick one up myself, but i dont see a cfm rating anywhere, which kinda makes me curious about the fan.

I am assuming you have a 220v hookup for that fan. If so, it should be alright, although maybe a bit loud.

you could always build a sound dampening casing for it if it is loud.

ive seen that mod before and find it very interesting. how long have you been running yours? how often/fulltime?

my concern with this item is that it isnt built for constant use. my one exhaust fan runs 24/7.

I put mine in in june. There are two air intakes on it, so it's perfect for my small side by side veg and flowering rooms. It's actually mounted in the 250w cfl veg room, with a 6" duct starter collar running from one intake to the 400w hps flowering room.

It runs 24/7 right now, with no problems at all. Over at IC there were a few people that had been running them 24/7 for over a year w/ no problems.

I've never run it on any speed but low. The veg room stays equal to the ambient temperature, and the flowering room is about +5F higher. If I were to fix a couple small leaks where the starter collar connect to the fan, I have no doubt the flowering room would drop a few more degrees.

If I get <2 years out of it, I will probably upgrade to a panasonic or s&p fan. But it does moves a lot of air cheaply, and relatively quietly.

I'd say it's comparable to a ceiling fan on high speed. I plan to add some insulated ducting to the exhaust side, I am hoping that will quiet things down even more.

It's not silent, but it is MUCH quieter than the half dozen pc fans I was previously running.

i been usein that stanley blower for about 4 months , non-stop. It is no where NEAR the cfm rating that Ace hardware gives it. They says its like 2200 cfm on high . with research i believe its more like 500 cfm on high. It seems to be doin the job though. My main concern with it is the HP it has : 1/8 or less , so it will not pull/push though anything other then air. NO FILTERS. I paid 65 for mine at ace but hell for 35 at walmart it is worth it. A few months back someone on here posted a thread sayin this was the cheapest , most powerfull fan on the market...... so i went to the Ace site and checked it out , this is the ace cfm rating: "CFM on low 1280, medium 1750, high 2180"
so i bought it.
i dont know what these kids on here thought but i KNOW that thing aint no where near 1000 cfm's even on high (maybe 500 w/NO FILTER) with a filter it almost stops the fan .

I do agree about the cfm being way off. Most of the stuff I saw put it closer to 250cfm. I still have not added a real carbon filter yet, so I can't comment on that on how well it pushes through it.

this is very true. most fans are the same. Some have crazy specs with the fancy looks and some just have the crazy specs and some are just good for looks. Dayton is about the best electric motor they make . (but the hydro shop wont tell u that!) i buy all my expensive shit from the supply stores. i paid 450 bucks for 2- 1000watt hps ballests and bulbs, so i'll always stick to the supply stores. Plus they have been runnin stings at alot of grow stores around here so we all gotta be carefull!

are you guys taking into consideration the ducting?

cfm rating are usually for a fan thats open at both ends. put 'X' amount of ducting on either end and your cfm drops, bends in that ducting further reduce cfm, and use smaller ducting that you should and it plumets.

those high ratings are for an open unit.

still sounds like a good buy to me!

I really dont think a carbon filter will work on that , its just too weak. (HP wise) heres how i been usin mine , it has lil to no air restriction like a carbon filter does but it dont work all that great. Maybe when i start useing ONA's instead of pine sol it will work alot better ?



have any of you tryed ONA's vs. Carbon ? or have any of u tryed ONA ?

NO slik , they really did fuck up on the ratings.
Even without ducting (your right , duct does change the cfm's a lil even if it is just a strait run.) but even open air that fan is no more then 500 cfm on high..... but i am really thinkin like 300 topps. Plus if you search around on the net for that fan you will find NOONE besides ace advertizing numbers like that.

they say 310 on high.... i believe that one.

dont forget that those cfm ratings are peak ratings. they are marketed just like stereos. they tell you this super high number to sell you on it, but what they dont tell you is it that rating is a peak rating.

I just got some of the ona pro gel...great stuff. I used a very small amount and it has eliminated about 80-90% of the odor. Unless replacing it starts to get too expensive, I may not even need the carbon filter.
