Is This Fireproof?

I'd like to use this automobile solar heat shield as reflective material in my garden, but other then "Made in Taiwan" there is no material type listed.

It would be close to my 250W HPS bulb and housing and I don't know if it's fireproof. Any insite?

What is it made of? Is it fireproof? What side to use? I will be cutting it in sections. Is there fireproof material inside it?

well you can always cut off a piece and set it on fire. don't actually touch the flame to the material, just below it. If it catches without any part of the flame touching it then don't use it.

No prob. I'm ashamed I didn't have a flat out answer for you. I'm known for trying to set random stuff on fire. This is one of the things I havent. I was quite a pyro growing up.

No I dont think it is.it may be flame retarded for the use inside a car in the sun.Fire proof stuff costs alot. But check it out with fire like Keahtoka said.PEACE

Is that whole thing red? If so, I don't wanna burst your bubble, but that thing is completely wrong for what you are wanting it for. By it being red, it is going to absorb all other light wavelengths and only reflect red light. That is not really what you want for a grow room. You'd be better off using mylar, or that cheap silver wrapping paper. Supposedly, it's made of mylar.

Another idea, and feel free to comment, as I was quite the pyro too growing up... Cut a piece off as described, and then put it in the oven starting at 150 degrees for 60 minutes, if it doenst burn, take it to 200, etc. I figure, if you can find out how hot the buld gets at about 1/2 inch away, that is the highest you need to set the ove n temp at and see if it just BROWNS, or catches on fire, the caveat is that if you cut a piece off, you expose the innards of the thing, which may just be plastic spun fibers. I have a similar one in my car, and there is no cardboard inside, I just replaced it as after 5 years, it is totally floppy and cant hold its shape. IF you are going to use it, use the WHITE side not the red side, so you reflect white full spectrum light (or part o fthe specturm anyway) vs reflecting just red light as was stated above.

I agree just get some mylar. Sure its not cheap always but so easy to clean and it seems to last forever if taken care of.
