Is this normal or did I get contamination?

Hey, few days ago my gf brought me starter kit for shrooms. It has already been a bit contaminated with green mold, so i cut it out wide around. I have put the remaining in a small sproutnig box with covering lid, filled with moist clay pallets and vermiculate.. 2 days have passed and now this is happening..

Help me pls as I dont know almost anything about shrooms.. :wall:

Thank you!

You talking about the black stuff. What ever you do do not breath that stuff. looks like tam to me. I would def throw it out. May be too late for the others too.

You have no FAE and i doubt your humidity levels are optimum. When mycelium is almost to totally colonized the substrate youd be impressed at what kinda of shit it is able to fight off.
I once left a box neglected for a month after 5th flush. I witnessed the mycilium fihgt off green and grey mould, give off god know how many little flushes of humongous mushrooms until it all just went slightly rotten lol. But ye mycelium is a good fighter, does depend on the strain though...

MadDog: If you think that black stuff in the bottom of the cakes, its just coffee grounds.. I read somwhere that shrooms thrive on this stuff, and it also holds moisture. I am worried about the fluffy white stuff, I think it's not just mycelium but also white mold? Am I wrong?

KLITE: I'll check my humidity, and ill mount one comp fan on top of the lid. I also have one 6500K 20W CFL over the lid..

Thank you for info!

I've mounted a small HM and it had a lousy 60%.. So I added a plastic cup with air stone and some water, and turned the air pump on min.. 15 min later HM showed +/- 85%.. It has stayed that way for few hours now. CFL will be 8h on and rest off.. that's more or less about as much as I'll do besides waiting and taking some pics, maybe even time lapse video.. Thank you for your kind reply all

I really wouldnt reccomend putting a computer fan on all the time. Just knock a few holes in the box and you should be fine. Next time just get some coir and vermiculite and dump it in a tub. So much easier and hassle free, plus one decent flush in a tub and thats you set for life with mushrooms.

You don't want direct air. Make a shotgun fruiting chamber with perlite and have a oscillating fan in the same room as the chamber.

Start over as your "cakes" are not even fully colonized. Also having (wet) coffee like that will grow mold...

Edit Also you already had green mold simply cutting it out and tossing it isn't sufficient. Millions of mold spores are already there now that the mold has sporulated and will most likely contaminate the others.

Well, your settings aren't optimal, but far from bad, so I think you are ok, just wait... Patience is the name of the game with shrooms ;)

GL!
