Is this normal? (pics included)

photo1.jpgphoto2.jpgphoto3.jpg

I did my res change yesterday, and came home to this crap! :wall:
I added the following to my 46 liter res:

140ml AN Micro/Grow/Bloom
45ml of AN Sensizyme
75ml of AN Big Bud
35ml of AN Carboload
90ml of AN Bud Candy
90ml of AN Rhinoskin
13ml of HG Root Exculator

This is my first week (and first time ever) using Sensizyme, so im just not sure if this is normal or if I have a bad batch or something.

The plants look great...perkey, green and loving life. The roots on the other hand have a brownish tent, with all that white gunky stuff and theres a funky smell in the res.

Any help would would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!!

That does not look good...I would read up on Heidenberg's thread about Beneficial Microbes

yeah, i've checked that out. I think im just going to run some H2o2 or some DM Zone, but if anyone has any idea of what went wrong i would greatly appreicate the help

hmmm, its definitely light proof, i had the lid open so i could take pics. The whole tub is wrapped in B/W poly, even the top. I havent noticed any green alage in the res, which is usually the first sign of a light leak.

Just making sure. I was commenting on the tuberware did not realize you took added steps just trying to help out lol :D

ah no problem man, i do appreciate the help. And this might have to be a process of elmination to figure out what the actual problem is. I honestly think i have a bad batch of Sensizyme, because this wasnt happening until i started using it... or I've added way too many beni's with the combo of sensizyme and root exceulator. With that said, should i throw in some DM Zone and wait until my next res change, leaving out the sensizyme and just add the root exceulator or just do a complete res change now?

I personally would change now that's just me you may not want to and running with benies is not something I am well versed in. Best to send a PM to Heidenberg? I fix a fresh batch and keep it going without it. What does sensizyme do for you exactly?

Sensizym is suppose to be benifical enzyme that help breakdown dead material in the root zone and feed it back to the plants, kind of like hygrozyme

Here is what I would do...

Drop the enzyme product, it does indeed turn dead stuff into food, but the slime and gunk will eat that food before the plants can. Enymes are well known to aggravate a slime problem in a DWC. Drop any AN microbe products. For what ever reason, those WILL cause slime in a DWC, this again is well known, not just my guess. Drop the roots excell all together, or use it in the tea. (about 1ml per gallon). It will enhance the tea, but if used directly in a DWC res, it is likely to cause slime. Roots excell caused so much problems in my res that I don't even use it in the tea, it just sits on my back shelf. However, others do use it in the tea with great results.

Don't bother ordering Zone unless you have the extra money. It is a great product, but h202 will work just fine. Preferably the 28% or higher stuff. Even bleach can be used at a very mild dose. (Dosing info can be found in the forums). In any case, you just need a quick sterilization of the root zone, scrub any equipment and res, and then start with a fresh res and inoculate with beneficial microbes. Just about any product other than AN will work. Botanicare, GH, great white, ect are all good. If you want to make the tea I outline in my other post that would be best.

Your roots are still very healthy and I could see you turning things around in just a few days with bennies.

Beneficial microbe tea - You can substitute the molasses with about 15ml of carboload if you want

EDIT* BTW what ever you do, do not use roots excell and Zone together. Not only will Zone kill the RE, but you'll give your roots a chemical burn and, as they die, ensure root rot.

Thanks for the response, Ill head to the store tomorrow for those ingredients. I spoke with AN rep and they had mentioned that the white clumps is from Bud Candy making yeast which shouldn’t harm the plants, however i should reduce the amount im using. Have you ever heard of this?

I really hope i didnt cause to much harm to my roots last night, i panicked and added some DM Zone to my rez, which had Root Excel in it. After i read your response i did an emergency res change, leaving out both sensizyme and root excel, but still running zone. I noticed some weird coloring on my leaves tonight, but didn’t get a change to take a pic before the lights went out, Im not really sure how to describe the coloring but some of the leaves were really limpy and kind of curled under.
Im really hoping i can get the ingredients tomorrow at the store, so i can start brewing the tea, and have it ready for my regularly scheduled rez change this weekend.

You will probably be ok. When I mixed Zone and roots excel I used a very strong dose of Zone, and they sat for days and days before I checked them. (they were just testers) The damage caused was def much different than slime or disease, but like I said you should be ok.

Bud Candy is just a bunch of carbs really. I personally don't see how it's different than carboload, but then again I do not use such things so I have little experience. It does list brewers yeast as an ingredient. The marketing descriptions says...

IMAGINE BACK IN YOUR PAST WHEN YOU WERE A KID AT THE COUNTY FAIR EATING COTTON CANDY. IT WAS PURE DELIGHT THAT MELTED IN YOUR MOUTH LEAVING YOUR FINGERS STICKY AND GOOEY! THAT SWEET DELICIOUS TASTE AND THOSE SMELLS IT DROVE YOU CRAZY! NOT ONLY DID IT SMELL AND TASTE DELICIOUS YOU GOT AN IMMEDIATE BOLT OF ENERGY FROM ALL THAT SUGAR THAT RUSHED THROUGH YOUR VEINS! NOW ITS TIME TO BRING ALL OF THAT SAME GOOD AND SWEET STUFF HOME TO YOUR PLANTS!

Here's my thoughts... If you feed your child a daily dose of cotton candy how healthy do expect he will be? A quick search of bud candy shows complaints such as, "it makes all my bud taste the same". Yeast makes Co2 which seems odd considering how much effort we put into oxygenating the water...now we have yeast filling it with C02? But as I said, I have no personal experience with AN products.

I use Dutch Master gold line, with the add27 booster which covers everything. If you really want a boost in production and yield, try liquid light spray from Dutch Master. Use it with the saturator and you'll begin to see results in about an hour.
