Is this normal?

My friend is growing Mj at his home he has his plants under flourecent lights. However i noticed that his plants were diferent from the ones i have seen, maybe im going crazy but i told him it coulnt be Mj but it is because i noticed the fan leaves but anyways the plant looks like this: It starts from the soil thick green stem with hairs.. then it has 2 sets of leaves not fan leaves just leaves 3 sides to it not like the fan ones. then the stem grows about 2 to 3 inches and builds bigger leaves same as before 3 sides to it then the stems goes 3-4 inch and builds same leaves 3 sides. Then it goes about half an inch and builds 2 sets but they are fan leaves then at the middle new leaves are growing looks like the stem has stopped stretching but it looks like to me that the plant is weird. It has no branching what so ever i tought that when 2 sets of leaves are born they have to branch out? like create more leaves? but instead my friends goes upwards and keeps building only 2 sets of leaves. No branching whatsoever

I'm going to guess the plant is about 3 weeks old. That's just how they grow. Node branching can take a while with some strains, others branch immediately. Hell even the same strain with different phenos can branch a lot or barely at all. After it has vegged a while it will start to branch out.

Yeah this is impossible to help without a pic. If grown from seed it could just be bad genetics. I had I seed pop (recently) that grew no internode branches. I let it grow to nearly a foot with no branches, only fan leaves, before I just chopped it and threw it away.

ye i haved some strange plants from seeds to mate and i mean strange looking things. some turned out great some well you know. need pics so bad to tell

That's normal, it will grow up first, and you'll start seeing new growth right above where the leaves meet the stalk (main stem) . And the top of the plant ( new growth) looks like leaves coming out of the top of the stalk(main stem). Other than that it seems stretched, 2-3 inches between nodes then 3-4", tell him to put the lights about 1-2 inches away from the plant.
