Wrong. Strains have names based on their genetic parentage. Within each strain there is a certain amount of genetic variation. These variations are called phenotypes. Some strains express more phenotypes than others, depending on the strain's genetic stability.
It would be difficult but possible to identify a certain strain, but only if smelled and/or smoked. Identification from a photo would be a crap shoot at best.
There are literally thousands of strains, and many phenotypes within each strain.
2nd that i grow some plants from a pack of seeds (cm)
1 small plant that smelt like grape fruit and only 2.5 oz s dry and was a good smoke
2nd that grow big with smell of cat piss and had buds that look like lumps instead of buds covered in hair, not a good smoke 4 oz dry
3rd ok smoke fast grower and good bud size just what cm should look like just over 4oz's dry
4 very bushy plant grows big lots of smaller buds and a very good smoke, its a high not stone smoke like the rest and yield 4oz, the best one, 9 weeks to flower
so lots of different looking plants from 1 strain
i could not tell the different between big bud and critical mass
