Is tinfoil a good idea?

ive read conflicting things around the interw3bz and Im wondering if its a good idea for me to put tinfoil up around my grow area. I have seen some pictures where people have used tinfoil but i was wondering what the personal opinion is since its my first time growing?

I havent yet figured out which grow area Im going to use since im having a lighting issue as stated in my other threads. but if i use my bedroom closet it would be all white, but if i use my office closet its a sea green color (the color of the wall in my avatar. so I figured it would probably be a good idea to use tinfoil if i put them in that closet.

any tips?:confused:

You want to not use tinfoil, as it can cause hot spots.

Mylar is a good choice, or if you want a better product, look into 1/8" closed cell ZT bubble mylar. Much more durable, won't rip, easy to clean and easy to put up and take down. It's about 1/2" thick and is 3.5 millimeter of Mylar, making it vastly superior to 2mm mylar sheeting which rips easily and is hell to cean if plants are present.

You can get a 4' in height by 20' length for about $20 shipped. Auto modders usually use these sound insulation, as fireproofing and they look awesome. I used 2mm mylar for years, and will never use it again. I bought a 50' roll of this stuff, enough to last me a lifetime, or until something better is found.

Agreed, go with the 3.5 MM, its allot easier to work with

It isn't needed.. just helps out.. I've used white poster board before cheap as hell and easily removed just tape it up where you want some light reflected..

thats a good idea! cant really paint my closet white since its not going to permanently hold plants and we had it professionally painted very nicely. dont want to damage all that work.

if you go to the faq's and look up reflectors and lights it will give you a list of different things and tells you the reflecting percentage also ...i was gonna try styrophome but now that i heard white poster board i will give that a try...

The problem with using poster board is that it isn't water resistant, the first time you foliar spray, the posterboard won't be so white.

Just do a Google search for Moneysavingbubbles

He sells it via Ebay and at a retail website. IMO, the 1/8" closed cell 3.5mm ZT mylar bubble is what you want. It's actually cheaper than even 1mm Mylar. You do the math :roll::mrgreen::roll:

I wouldn't even recommend foliar spraying to beginner growers.. I have never foliar feed an indoor plant..

Foliar spraying isn't just for non novices, as novices can foliar spray with just ph adjusted water to clean the leaves. Cleaning the foliage is always a good idea, novice or expert.

Then again this thread is to help Superhighme, just talking this person out of using tin foil, in doing so I simply mentioned why posterboard isn't the best option, I suggested this person look into ZT 1/8" closed cell 3.5mm mylar bubble. It works, its easier to maintain and is cheaper than even 1mm mylar. Its always best to give information as why a product may not be a good choice, I explained that tin foil can cause burns and why posterboard isn't the best choice. :roll:
