ya so its my 1st time doing this. i have lots of trim and 3 32oz bottles of 91% isopropyl alcohol. i know 99% is better but my local wal-greens don't have it. but any way, how long do i let my iso sit with my trim for? i read 30 seconds is ideal. im going to chill my iso before hand, but should i chill my trim? its dry... and i plan on using the fan to help evaporation. any tips or pointers are recommended.

Put trim and alcohol in the freezer overnight before you wash.Try 20 seconds at first, you can always do a second wash.Don't use fresh cut trim, trim that has fresh cuts will bleed chlorophyll.I evap with a screen over my dish and just let it evap in the room(76°f).GL

Thanks for the info brother I appreciate it! i plan on doing just a test run with 8 grams trim, and 2 grams of some regs my friend gave me. how long does evap usually take?

I forgot the most important part:lol. It usually takes 4 days to evaporate.I use a 9x13 pyrex dish and use about a 1/4 ounce(7-10grams) of bud and wash with about a cup(8oz) of 91% Iso.That usually leaves me with about 1/8 inch of alcohol in the dish.
My Iso hash always looks like this....

Yeah, don't get your hopes up on making real hash. Isopropyl extract is very weak, funny tatsing, non-resinating, fake extract that's as low as low grade gets. I've experimented an just about every co-solvent available and I swear by avoiding isopropyl because it wishes it where like ethanol. As far as I seen, no solvent is as good as co2 w ethanol in tiny percentages. Specifically formulated does much better job vs butane, which is considered Holy Grail to many oil smokers on this site.

dont listen to oilmkr, that guy makes meth.

also, why doesnt anyone ever suggest, to the ones that can only get 91% ISO, to dehydrate it with salt?

mix a ton of salt in your 91% ISO... salt binds with the water molecule, and then sinks. wait a bit, suck the top layer off with a turkey baster, which will be 99% ISO. I dont know if there will still be salt in it of or if you can filter it out or not, but you could always make a very simple still, evap the 99% iso that you made, collect the fumes, and let them condense back into a separate dish.. leaving any remaining salt behind. come to think of it.. it would be easier to just order everclear.

Can you salt out past 91%? I used an oz of trim, made 3 grams of iso oil. Its fun, but bho is much, much better

im pretty sure you can, I dont see why not. and yeah. BHO is better, and if you winterize it its even smoother, but not quite as tasty.

Salting out works good. I would expect 97-98% or so and it is a bit of work..just a bit. Water absorbs the salt iso doesn't, you siphon it off, suck it out, cut the corner on a Ziploc etc to separate the layers and that's bout it....I buy a gallon of 99% iso for 10 bucks, much better

cool, thanks for confirming it.

does all the salt come out? ive read that sometimes a tiny bit of salt, or salt taste stays in your newly made 99% ISO.

seems that some people cant find 99% if their lives depended on it. 91% is on the shelf though... most of the time they got 99% behind the counter and know exactly where it is, and will ask you why you need it, and then only sell you a 500ml bottle of it.. uh no id like 4000ml (gallon) lol!

you can buy 99% at bong shops too.. but some just dont carry them or some people just dont know, I agree though its way easier, and prob cheaper to just buy the 99% haha, or everclear!

The salt mixes with the water and settles to the bottom, gotta be careful sucking up iso or draining the salt water as the layer isn't real defined and both are clear, salting out isn't perfect especially using salt (nacl) and not an actual drying agent used for this purpose. Some residual salt is very possible to be left behind but it can be done cleanly...I've never performed this outside experimental purposes, it may leave a slight flavor....I would do a mirror test on a small amount I suppose....... or just use 91% if you can get that lol

There are a lot of places online that sell by the gallon, cheapest I've found is 25 bucks, I think amazon does 4 gallons at 20 each for 80 dollars. I use Safeway brand, its a 1.18 I think per pint, 8 pints in a gallon. And for some reason 99% is cheaper than 91 or 70......I stock up and buy 16 pint bottles each time I go

Yeah your safeway sells it a decent amount less than mine. Mine is 1.99 or 2.19 (can't think of the exact at the moment but I'm pretty sure it's 1.99) so it still comes out to less than $20 for a gallon. I guess I'll just stick to there.

why not look for everclear? its so much better in every way, except price, but were talking pocket change here.
