Israel on Monday slammed the Polish Parliament’s decision to uphold a ban on ritual slaughter (shechita), issuing a rare statement criticizing the decision of a foreign, democratic parliament.

Shechita is the Jewish religious and humane method of slaughtering permitted animals and poultry for food. It is the only method of producing kosher meat and poultry allowed by Jewish law. It is a most humane method as explained below.

There is no ritual involved in shechita. It is a cardinal tenet of the Jewish faith that the laws of shechita were divinely given to Moses at Mount Sinai (Deuteronomy XII:21); the rules governing shechita are codified and defined and are as binding and valued today as ever and they ensure a swift and painless dispatch of the animal. Infringing the laws of shechita renders the meat unconditionally forbidden as food to Jews. The time hallowed practice of shechita, marked as it is by compassion and consideration for the welfare of the animal, has been a central pillar in the sustaining of Jewish life for millennia.

Shechita is performed by a highly trained shochet. The procedure consists of a rapid and expert transverse incision with an instrument of surgical sharpness (a chalaf), which severs the major structures and vessels at the neck. This causes an instant drop in blood pressure in the brain and immediately results in the irreversible cessation of consciousness. Thus, shechita renders the animal insensible to pain, dispatches and exsanguinates in a swift action, and fulfils all the requirements of humaneness and compassion.

“The parliament’s decision to reject a bill allowing kosher slaughter in Poland is totally unacceptable.”
On Friday, a government sponsored bill aimed at legalizing the practice of shechita was shot down in the Sejm, the lower house of parliament, in a vote of 222 to 178. Such slaughter has been illegal in Poland since January.


The government had hoped the proposed law would allow Polish abattoirs to resume production of kosher meat. The result of the vote came as a shock to leaders of the country’s Jewish community and elicited strong responses from the community world wide.
Polish radio reported that Poland’s Jewish and Muslim minorities were not the only groups unhappy with the continued ban, with farmers protesting before last week’s vote. Prior to the cessation of shechita, Poland has served as a major exporter of Kosher and Halal meats throughout Europe, with sales estimated by some at half a billion euros annually.

you can tell anyone anything you like..... its not like they have to listen. I tell people things everyday knowing full well they are not listening or don't care about most of it.... it's just part of my job. I see this being similar to the way most politicians act in this respect. They say what it is their job to say, so being the prez of Isreal i imagine it is to some degree his job to issue a public statement when another country outlaws something highly valued in your countries population.

i agree with you 100%, as an American i feel we vastly overstep our "authority", if you can call it that,.. being self appointed for the most part and accepted simple because no one wants to feel the wraith of disobedience. I will give one example but I'm sure we could go back and fourth all day with them.

Most of the natives that were living in the USA prior to its founding well over 200 years ago are dead and gone. The small population that remains of them have civil rights and there are programs set into place to help them out. The US also has an immigration problem which is more for the time being an major economic/social issue. This problem can be fixed by securing the border, fixing loopholes and holding our elected officials accountable.

Now israel on the other hand It's natives the palestinian people are still alive and a good chunk of the population. With almost no rights and facing violence everyday in the present time. The zionist government that controls the land claims they are attacked almost all the time yet if you look at the death toll from both sides you can clearly see who is killing off who.
