To deny we have no revenue problems is pretty BS IMO we have low taxes compared to most of our history and our taxes are low compared to almost all of the other advanced nations... We have a short term fiscal situation in which the bush tax cuts caused 2 trillion in lost revenue in the last decade AND it was during wartime - Which by the way is the first time in history taxes dropped instead of went up during wartime...does our nation have a bit of a spending problem? Sure. But to ignore any revenue problems is just a cover for anti-tax, small government ideology, nothing more(certainly not evidence...).

Btw, don't cite nominal revenues to say revenue is at an all time high, as that's obviously quite laughable but I know some of you think that's a legit argument...

MAME are taxes are low compared to other countries? Don't we have the 2nd highest corporate tax bracket in the world?

If you are referring to RomneyCare, you are correct.

It was a STATE deciding a non-federal issue for ITSELF.

Taxachussets can have it's RomneyCare.

But for the NATION?

Not having any of it.
not talking about romney. look at what the republicans were advocating long before that. i can cite a source, but i am busy packing and closing up the homestead for a long trip.

thank goodness and little baby jesus that i will have a friend here 24/7 to keep things in order with the ducks and the plants.

Apparently if your name is John F Kennedy you cut taxes. Revenues increased 62% under his tax cuts.
if you are advocating for 70% (and more) taxation on the top bracket, as happened under kennedy, i would have to disagree with you.

that is way too high.

i would settle for a nominal increase on the top tax brackets, possibly clinton or even mid-reagan levels.

also, all of you are fucking towels.

we should not be prancing around and playing the blame game right now.

we should ALL be ganging up on S&P for making such a stupid decision that will hurt everyone based on their retarded analysis that we MIGHT default at some time in the future.

it will never happen. even the craziest tea partier out there wanted some sort of a deal (not compromise).

these are the same stupid fucking asshats, blithering fucktards if you will, who gave these junk bundles of mortgages AAA ratings.

these fucktards at S&P who downgraded us are less capable than mentally-handicapped wombats, and deserve our collective scorn.

enough with the "you're a towel" bullshit, folks.

S&P didn't base their decision on any kind of default. the USA cannot default, we have treasuries and the Fed is willing to buy as many as we want. In essence, we can print all the money we want to pay off the debt. Impossible to default.

Is it true there was a 2 Trillion dollar error in their report to the government?

Michael Moore says the head of the S&P should be arrested.

Shoot the messenger.

Is that the apex of the Liberal message?

they obviously hinted at the possibility of default due to the current inability to reconcile the differences between the two parties.

Who did I demand be arrested?

Because I do not recall doing anything of the sort.

Without appropriate context, I am unable to defend myself against vague recriminations.

So I am not going to worry about it.

The idea that the US was teetering on the verge of default is laughable at best. This whole circus, IMHO, was choreographed for the Public's benefit. If this entire charade was to have played out behind closed doors, the Reps and the Dems alike would have given us another huge spending bill with no tax hikes AND no cuts. I mean, let's get serious people...If any of you think either party is intent upon representing the average taxpayer as opposed to corporate interests, you're delusional.

Until I see a party, or individual, publicly state that they're intent upon withdrawing troops from overseas, closing bases, kill farm and oil subsidies, then I will continue to say that we're all being played for fools. Want health care for Americans? I'd get behind that if we were to trade tax dollars to pay for it by closing bases overseas and stop killing citizens of sovereign nations for corporate interests. That's something I could get behind.

Think the Dems and Reps would ever do that? No...And there you have it...they're not serious. And don't tell me that Dems are anti war. This administration has proven it's every bit as pro war as the previous. Hail American Empire!

I give the US 30 years before it collapses. I used to say 50, but I've reassessed. I grieve for our children.

by eliminating wasteful programs and by abolishing ENTIRE departments. Hang on to your hats folks, its going to be a wild ride.
Agreed. It has to happen, either by a controlled method or a catastrophic full collapse of our system. As far as the wild ride? Look at what the FSA (Free Shit Army) is doing in Great Britain over the past few days. When it comes to the states I believe it will be much worse.

It is going to be real hard getting the entitled masses weaned off of government handouts. Greece was bad, London is worse, but wait til it gets to America. Whoever takes over for Obama is going to have a hellish time and will be villified for doing what is needed to keep the country from total collapse, if that can even be avoided at this point.

Just as long as it holds together for at least another 2 weeks, I'm happy. We go "off-grid" in 2 weeks. :)

Japan recently lowered their corporate tax rates, we now fill the #1 spot in that regard.

And as far a states go, CA tops all 50 in corporate taxes and has, for at least the past few years, IIRC, has been rated #1 of the most "business hostile" states...yet we're hurting in a big way to increase tax revenue.

My wife and I have discussed how screwed city/suburb dwellers would be in the event of a collapse. we're thankful for the acreage we have, in a small rural area just at the right elevation (above the CA fog, below the Sierra snow) and we're going completely utility independent. We have gardens and have now established a business relationship w/ a local rancher for organic grass fed beef. Chickens are next for us.

"If" (I'm hoping we don't suffer a collapse) it does happen...It won't be pretty....but I think us folks up here will make out OK...longer than the cities for sure.
