I've got the need for heat!

Hey guys, I just started a new grow in a house I just moved into. With the lights off, the room gets down to about 63F, 73F with them on, and Winter isn't even here yet! I obviously need more heat, but I don't want to use a space heater for a few different reasons. I was wondering if a ceramic infrared heat emitter like this one would be okay?

With the lights off, would this mess up the light/dark cycle? Any other input regarding this subject would definitely help.

screw heaters!! your a lucky son of a bitch! everyone else deals with trying to lower temps. just get more light its a win win. more light = win, perfect temps = win

My problem is during the dark cycle. That's obviously when the temperature drops most. Extra lights will not solve this problem.

well 63 is fine, i understand it will get colder in winter, but where are you growing, wht is the temp outside when its 63 in your grow space and how cold does your winter get?

I had a room dropping into the low fifties also.
I purchased a catalytic heater that screws on the end of a 16 oz propane bottle. It would burn over 12 hours and raised the heat 15 degrees. Carbon dioxide doesn't hurt the plant and wasn't enough to kill me either. Burns less propane than a burner on a cookstove.
This was a short term solution, propane in the bottle was costing me a dollar and a half per day.
If hooked it to a 5 gallon RV propane tank the cost drops to 75 cents/day, $20/month, starting to get reasonable compared to electric heat. Hose and tank and fittings are a fair outlay of cash versus an electric hotplate. Choices.

Right now I'm growing inside of a walk-in closet attached to my room. It was around 55F outside when it got down to 63F, and I expect it to get below zero at some point this winter. I'll eventually turn the heat on in the house, but only to the low sixties (Semco is expensive around here) So it won't totally solve the problem.

Phaeton, that sounds incredibly expensive and kind of dangerous man! 0: Honestly, the best option i've come across is the exo-terra heat emitters. I'll be picking one or two up today, and I'll let ya know how it goes. They're supposed to increase temperatures 15-20F.

Get a portable radiator heater, they work great. Make sure to get one with a digital thermostat so that it turns on and off as needed. They really heat up any space you put it in quickly, I have been using them for years. Here is what I am talking about

You don't need one that costs that much its just an example. I would buy that one though just because these things last for years and work great. Set it for the temp you want your room to stay at with lights off and problem solved. Since it has digital thermostat it will not run during lights on unless of course it got cold enough.

Well, I don't really want to use any kind of heater; I live in a really old house and only have access to ONE 12 amp outlet. I had a really small 1500 watt space heater, and it overloaded the circuit. So heaters are pretty much out of the equation.
