Hey man...though this is not my thread, I would like to explain something to you.

When I subscribed to this thread, I wanted to see Jerry Garcia's progress. When I see yours, it is not why I subscribed to this thread.

Therefore, it would please me, as I am sure most others, if you could start your own thread. I would be happy to look at your progress in your own thread.

Thanks for understanding!

Hello friends! I offer my most sincere apologies for taking so long between updates...I've just completed moving (and all the annoyances associated with it) and have not had the time to properly chronicle my progress. I am now settled and the babies are happily bathing in some 400w MH sunshine, though they clearly suffered from a slight case of neglect during the move.

Typically I start my plants in 24oz clear plastic cups, but apparently my grocery store stopped selling them and now only offers the 16oz size, so I used them to start my seeds and definitely regret it. Turns out 8oz of additional soil volume makes a noticeable difference in the amount of nutrients available in the medium, a fact I neglected during my mixing of soil, resulting in some yellowing and overall unhealthy looking plants. Now settled in my new house, I've transplanted all into my 4" square pots that hold about .5 gallons of medium, and they are much happier as a result. Usually I can keep them in the 24oz cups for up to 3 weeks without any problems, but the 16oz cups just can't last long without supplementing with liquid fertilizer.

Anyway, they are all very happy in their new digs, and are just about to get their first round of training! For those new to my grows, I heavily train every plant I grow and never top/fim/cut any growing tips unless I have to. So expect the plants to look a bit different in the next round of pics! Let's take a look at them today though...

Here's an overview of all 13 plants.

The left 2 are CC Sour Diesels, the right 2 are White Old Larry's. The right front WOL is the one started about a week ahead of the others.

Closeup of the slightly older White Old Larry. Both of these plants struggled mightily in the early stages, but have responded quite well to the black pots.

The left 2 are CC Sour OG S1's, the right 2 are Connoisseur Genetics Sour Hazy Jones. It's hard to see in this pic, but the SHJ in the back is actually a triploid...it's growing 3 sets of leaves per node. Though this sounds like a positive thing, every triploid plant I've ever have has turned out male. Every one. So I'm actually kinda bummed about this one.

Finally, the 2 on the left are the Gage Green Genetics Chemporer x Candy, the two in the middle are the TGA Apollo 13 x Vortex, and the one on the right is the Dinafem White Widow. The WW is the only feminized plant I'm growing, and honestly I thought it was dead last week. It sprouted but someone became stunted and showed no signs of growth for many days in a row. Recently I noticed some new growth, and she seems to have pulled through whatever her problems were.

So that's it for now. I'm growing in a closet until I get the tent back up and running, but they are still so small I'm not really in a hurry. Next on the agenda is training, so stay tuned for the next installment of images (which I promise will be more frequent from here on out!)

Nice update there Kerry.. Nice to see the babies doing good.. I usually use use 16 oz cups to start my seeds but I think I might change that as well.. Can't wait to see the next update.

Hey Jerry - welcome back. Glad to see you recovered quickly from the starter cup downsizing issue. It sux when you have to venture from a proven formula doesn't it?
I'm currently recovering from a similar problem with my kids in veg. I guess we're just creatures of habit...

I had a really nice triploid White Russian many moons back, hell of a plant. Here's hoping you get your first triploid lady... Still in O-H-I-O?

Yeah it's tough with those little cups to find the appropriate balance of fertilizer where you won't burn a seedling but still provide enough nutrients to maintain optimal health. I think I went a little soft on nutrients AND used a smaller cup than normal...2 strikes against me right there. They are literally looking better by the hour though.

Wolverine...I'm actually down in Carolina these days doing my thing, though part of me will always be in the Buckeye state. Speaking of Buckeyes...I never got to commend you on a good win (your first in 8 tries) and rib you about our latest head coach signing (Urban Meyer...you may have heard of him lol). We are looking pretty nice in Basketball again this year too! And don't get me started about the NCAA suspending us from bowl play NEXT year...that is just straight BS!

Off to train some little plants into many-headed hydra! Pics to follow!

Nice update Jerry! I wouldnt be too concerned about the yellowing; as you know, it wont make much of a difference in the end result:)

Well, eat some BBQ for me then, I love their style down there. Love me some southern food...

Oh, yeah, that thing that happened in November was pretty sweet (I was there). Though I think it was one out of seven tries *cough, cough, 2010 didn't happen, cough*. Maybe I'm being naive, but I actually fear Meyer far less than Darth Tressel (that guy was no fun at all), but I'd much rather you guys just brough ole Cooper out of the moth balls for another ten years or so. I think we're going to have some pretty epic November games in the next 5-10 years, too bad we can't play you guys in the B1G championship next year... We're on the upswing on the hardwood too, good things are afoot in Meechigan Jerry. But that's enough stick poking for me...

Happy growing.

Yeah the yellowing I know was from leaving them in the little cups too long (as I was moving I was a little busy to transplant)...but most of them were unbelievably droopy until the transplant. I'm sure it was a moisture issue, but for the life of me I couldn't tell if they were under or over watered. It seemed as if part of the medium became hydrophobic from excessive dryness, though I never let them get excessively dry, and it was causing problems. I never had this much of a problem with the 24oz variety...

Speaking of, one of the reasons I went with the 24oz size from the get go was a common forum "myth" that a Russian study found seedlings provided with at least 4" of vertical space for the tap root to form turned female 80% of the time. While my experiences CLEARLY do not bear out those results (hence my classification of this theory as "myth") I think they undoubtedly benefited from the slight increase in volume provided versus a 16oz cup. Couldn't find a link to the exact study, so if anyone has it please feel free to share! I would love to read the actual report. :leaf:

Speaking of starting containers and taproots...

I've heard that the cannabis taproot can suffer from anything less than 6" vertical space, and if so it will not have the same growth rate (initially, at least). After hearing that I tried switching from 16oz party cups to 1gal rootmaker pots as my starting container. I noticed that ones that were started in the cups prior to me switching had a disfigured taproot at harvest (when checking the rootball), it almost looked like a pig's tail. The others started in the bigger pots looked more like like vertical waves, with the feeder roots running the whole length of the root.

Food for thought I suppose.

Anyways, happy growing! :leaf:

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of pics. It seems I have misplaced the sd card for my camera...I've got a little thing that you slide the sd card into that plugs directly into a USB port (it's an incredibly handy little gadget...I can use any capacity sd card as a flash drive), and somehow I can't seem to locate it. As soon as I find I will snap some shots and post a real update. All plants are doing excellent and have responded well to their early training.

Good news! I found the card and snapped some pics just a few minutes ago. I have a 3 month old kitten who likes to play with anything that moves, and I think she was responsible for relocating the sd card beneath the couch.

Anyway, let's look at the babies, shall we?

Here is a group shot. As you can see they have all undergone a little training. From left to right: Sour Hazy Jones, Sour OG, White Old Larry, Sour Diesel, Apollo 13 x Vortex, Chemporer x Candy. The plants in the back row are siblings of those in the front, except the White Widow, which is the smallest one in the back, behind the 2 Apollo 13's.

Here they are after another round of training. You can see I use string, but I also use paperclips straightened into a V for smaller branches or younger plants.

Left to right: Sour Hazy Jones, Sour OG, White Old Larry, Sour Diesel.

From left to right: Sour Diesel, Apollo 13 x Vortex, Chemporer x Candy. White widow again in the back behind the Apollos.

They have all responded well to their new containers, and are quickly outgrowing them. Probably going to give them another week or so in these pots then set up the tent and transplant again. At some point I'm going to take clones to replace the males, though I'll keep the best one or two to make seeds. That's about it. :leaf:
