Jillybean

I have been running Serious Seeds Bubblegum, Kali Mist, and Greenhouse Seeds The Church in my garden for a while now. I wanted to switch things up a bit, so I re-joined rollitup a while back and started researching some different breeders and their strains. It didn't take long to stumble upon TGA ...

There are certainly some TGA haters, and a lot of TGA fans, but ultimately the grow reports/journals from the likes of T-Ray, Hovering, Nugbuckets and others prompted me to give subs gear a go. It's tough to distinguish fact from fiction some times, so no better way to see if these genetics are legit than to grow them out myself.

I ordered a 5 pack of Jillybean, Cheese Quake, and Plushberry. I immediately germinated the JB and CQ. I got one female out of the 5 for Jilly (a little disappointing at the time). Only 4 of my 5 CQ popped, but 3 of the 4 were female, so I was excited about that.

Jillybean has been an extremely vigorous and healthy plant from start to finish. She seemed to handle whatever I threw at her with ease, and remained a lush green throughout with no leaf drop and no nanners. I can say the same for the CQ thus far (they are a few weeks behind Jilly).

I just harvested Jilly last week, and she is now dry and jarred. I will reserve final judgement on her until I get a bit of a cure, but my initial impressions are very good after a sample was smoked last night. First thing I can say is that she is a BIG producer! I use #5 buckets, and usually end up with 3-4 zips of nice bud per plant. Jilly came in at 6 zips! I topped it once above the second node-set, and man did she perform! The smell is of a pineapple/citrus variety. Not overwhelming, but quite pleasant. The taste is fairly non-descript at this point, but I'm hoping that will improve with a proper cure. The resin production is very impressive, and the trim was quite easy ..... although my scissors were constantly gummed up from the piles of resin. The high definitely leans towards the sativa side. It was a pleasant, uplifting experience with no signs of paranoia or anxiousness. It definitely messed with my eyes quite a bit as well. It was almost like my pupils were dilated and as a result colors and lights seemed intensified (almost like a mild hit of exctasy for you pill-poppers :-)).

I have never posted a picture on this site, but I may have to reconsider that for my next runs of Jilly and CQ. They are gorgeous plants, and worthy of sharing with the rest of the community. This is my first experience with TGA, and thus far I am very happy with the results. Kudos subcool!

I will post a little review on the CQ once they are done ....

Nice report st0wandgrow. Since you have experience with Kali Mist and Jilly Bean I'm curious to learn what you would think of a cross of the two. I've never grown Jilly, and only smoked her once, but I recall the buzz being nice and have read lots of good reviews. I now have a chance to get a male Jilly from a friend and plan to knock up my Kali mom with him. Good idea you think?

Nice write-up. You have me looking forward to my harvest.

I have 3 Jillybean starting their 7th week of flower (out of a 5 pack). One is leggy as hell, and isn't producing much. One is a great producer with branched growth and fair trich development, and one is slightly less producing but has primo trichs.

Please share your smoke report here once you have it cured.

Wow medshed, that cross could be interesting! The high is quite similar between the two, with the KM being more potent and a little more euphoric. What would be great is if the cross could shorten the flowering time up from 14-16 weeks (at least that's where my KM finishes up) down to something more in the 10 week range.

You might be on to something here! Please let me know if/when you decide to do this ....

Shall do ......

BTW, mine was done inside of 9 weeks from 12/12 (60 days I believe).

The scent off my plants is sweet, but not very strong yet. Like St0wandGrow, I am hopeful the cure will bring out the fragrance.

The prized pheno is what we call the candy pheno. She's the one that smells like a candy store. If you Beverly her keep her. Subs genetics do great in all grow media but you can not beat super soil. Growing is trial and error. Keep popping those beans. Stay dank.

"If you Beverly her keep her".

Can you explain that for me? I'm not sure what "Beverly" means ....

Thanks!

I am going to order JILLY BEAN seeds, I want the CANDY STORE pheno... how many seeds do i need to get to find this pheno, 5 , 10, 20. I prettty sure i would find it in 20 seeds, but what do you think about only 10 seeds,

Hey St0...you did not clone her?
I did clone her, which is the norm for me when I introduce new genetics.

I think this one will be a keeper, so I will be running more cuttings through the garden shortly.

Also, this has only been curing for a couple days and the smell and flavor are already starting to intensify. Subcool describes it as an "Orange Creamsicle" on the TGA website and that description is spot on!

OK, it's been curing for over 2 weeks now, and I've given out samples to my patients, and smoked on some myself last night.

The smell is really the biggest change since being jarred. It is straight up orange creamsicle. Very unique, pleasant smell. Unfortunately that hasn't translated over to the taste. It has a bit of an orange flavor to it, but it's very subtle, and not nearly as pronounced as the smell. 9/10 on the smell. 5/10 on the taste.

The high is definitely sativa leaning. It's not an overpowering smoke by any means, but it packs a decent punch. It really is a nice daytime smoke best used when you have stuff to get done and don't want to be blitzed. 7/10 on the high.

It's a visually appealing plant due to the impressive trichome production, and the lime green buds that are covered in orange hairs .... as well as the excellent yield I got from a single topped plant with only 4 weeks of veg. 8/10 on bag appeal.

I will be keeping this pheno in my garden for at least a few more runs until I get some feedback from my patients. If they love it, it will stay. If not, new genetics will take it's place.

Thanks for the update, St0w, for the balanced review. I just chopped mine a couple of days ago. I'll post here when I can sample my own (in about a week).

I have two jillybean -- one is a 3 week old seedling and is tall, small (small leaves, small nodes, etc.) and slow-growing. The other is 2 weeks old and gigantic compared to the first -- much fatter leaves, many more node sites, much more vigorous growing.

I'm not sure if I got the two phenotypes subcool reports OR if I made the newbie mistake of giving 1/4 nutes to Plant 1 when she was germinating in rockwool (hey, the label said good for seeds! I believed!). So either it's the two phenos or I stunted the first girl. :(

But it sounds like I will have a similar experience to Nitegazer...but here's a question: will the high between the two phenos be noticeably different?
