View attachment 3963861 View attachment 3963862 K. So in the first picture is the side of the bucket. Fill with perlite up between where my fingers are be sure to go over the hole a decent bit it compacts down with your Coco on top. You don't have to use perlite you could use hydroton then the Coco on top. You could fill the whole bucket with a 4:1 perlite vermiculite mix (it's a little light for me and you have to water more often that's why I use coco). It's not really set in stone. Second pic you can see the root ball deeply into the reservoir this bucket has been drying out a few days and everything held together including the reservoir.
Hell yeah bro... nice!! you know I've been on the fence about either doing dwc, or hempy. I've seen some damn good results with the dwc here recently, exsply from a new found friend on here. @needsomebeans. Idk if he is ok with me talking about it, if he was trying to keep it on the dl, however it definitely deserves a mention. He made some cheap dwc buckets with old coffee cans, and has been blowing me away on pms with 15 day old results! I swear 15 days of growth looks like a month easy or more! However for some reason when I tried the dwc it didn't work that good for me! ): I always have issues with the damn ph. Lol. However this hempy style looks simple enough. Do you mind filling me in on what type of cocoa you are using, along with the ratios of perlite and or vermiculite you mix? Brands etc? Also what type of nutrients are you using? Thanks bro.

Its the best way to learn around here :)
I agree 100%.
I love the way you are thinking. Long-term it's beautifully old-fashioned and very sound.
You may have converted me to Hempys, especially now that I've seen your root mass photo. Great work, I'm following both you and Blue Ridge closely.
Thanks man! She's lookin good! About to post updates myself. Just threw a Jock Horror in the ground as wellong. Lachrymology I'm loving the updates! They're looking nicer and nicer!

I'm using the compressed Burpee bricks from home depot. I'd probably suspect Cannacoco is better and probably doesn't need as much perlite (by pictures it looks a bit more airy and less like mud like this stuff.) I don't use vermiculite since the Coco holds plenty of moisture. My ratio is about 70/30 coco/perlite with 100% perlite in the reservoir (I'll probably switch to hydroton for the res since it seems it's a pain in the ass to separate the perlite at the bottom when you pull the root ball put. I went with this method so I could reuse everything and not need to buy new shit every run.) as far as nutrients I use the Fox farms trio following the hydro feeding chart, calmag plus by botanicare and I pH my purified water to 6..1

Crazy thing about the length of time I've invested in researching this stuff is that there's plenty of two year growers here with more knowledge than me. Preparation is great but there's no substitute for doing. Also, back in the day there was so much hippie "urban legend" about stuff that it was a lot of getting second and tenth opinions by comparing threads to see what the general consensus was. There's still tons of issues like that to this day: flush/no flush, defoliate/ not to defoliate, how the fuck does FIM actual work, dark periods before harvest etc. Then there's crazy shit like this thread I was reading about drowning your plants in their pots with lights out to expedite the fermentation process then that evolving to boiling the roots. Which I'm on the side of he's fucking retarded.

I saw that boiling your root shit. I don't believe that bullshit one bit man. It's like the sticking a nail in your stalk crap. Absolute rubbish

Yeah I remember that from OG. Jamming a nail in the stalk at the base so it could heal a big nub around it effectively supercropping your main stalk. Theoretically seems like it makes sense but considering I've never seen anyone do it since I read that shit like ten years ago I'm assuming that's a no lol

Now I will admit that I'm leaning towards believing defoliation (not to a point of diminishing returns) does work.

I'll also come to conclusion about flushing next run when I do all clones I'll feed one up until harvest and flush the other three and compare after cure.

Both of those subjects are about 50/50 on the opinions side so I assume that would mean those techniques are strain dependant

I've seen some good grows where they lollipopped the plant. And I have a friend who snips leaves regularly. His suggestion to me on this is if your going to cut them start early so they're used to it. This is of course his opinion. He cleans up leaves from the start. I've decided if they're coming off, the plant will drop em.

His advice sounds on point t with what I've read. I'm not referring to Lolipopping the plant for one cola but removing high fan leaves shading bud sites and fan leaves towards the center of the plant doing the same as well as restricting air flow. Mine are so bushy and tight that the two I am doing it on are responding amazingly. Never seemed to slow them down at all and the result looks like a plant that was lsted or topped multiple times with witha nice flat table like canopy. I did have to tie one down today and really give it a hair cut since it was just so dense and crowing straight up. I had lower branching that was from the first node higher than the four main colas on that plant. Kinda like scrog without the netting I suppose. Those lowers might not have the nodes that the mains do but they're about just as high so at least those low branches that would just have larf on them will have havea nice golf ball up top.

I understand that plants need leaves for buds but those plants are designed for the sun which penetrate s the foliage. Indoor lights just can't do that, nor do the plants get anywhere near the size they do for the amount of leaves they have. Also, everyone knows that bud that doesn't get direct light grows into shit.

How about on autos?

As in can you snip those fan leaves off autos.
I wouldn't see why not. Although the only reason I did it is because I have multiple plants to compare to and they're mad fucking bushy. Up to you if you want to. Start from the top and nip off any giant ones that are covering tops below it. I aim to get most of my big fan leaves all out towards the perimeter of the plant so they're not over anything. I leave those alone.
