hi,

for my first grow im using a 400w lamp and the seeds are the lowyder ak47 ones. my questions are:
1.during the vegetative and flowering stage how far does the light need to be from the plant?
2.do i still use the vegetative fertilizer even though it goes straight to flowering?

thanks

If the lamp is cooled you should start them at about 8-12" away from the lamp and measure daily. Then lower or move your light up untill you get a feel for what your plants need (and can handle). I start my seedlings under a 400w hps with the light about 10" away from the top leafes but my lamp is cooled. This is a rough guide for hps light hanging heights. Keep on vegg nutes untill there are a good few flowers and introduce your bloom nutes gradually (check the dosages) then building them up as the plant progresses.
(luck).

I always keep my 400's 12in away to avoid heat stress if the light is cooled if not id say 18 in and you should be fine. Make sure to keep the air movin.

Erm, those are good heights to go by. My only advice I'll throw in is that you will likely want to start it higher than that as seedlings don't need or want that much light and are more fragile than established plants.
