ha no i already posted in that thread and it really wasnt a big deal at all what we were talking about, what i was talking about is some1 told a newb to just use tin foil,i told him just get an emergency blanket cuz foil creates hot spots and he said"theres nothing wrong with using tin foil" why the fuck would you give that advice when your supposed be experienced? thats what im talkin about
Actually the emergency blanket is just as bad an idea as the aluminum foil. Why didn't you advise him to get panda film or mylar? Personally, working with mylar sucks balls; that's why I use panda film now. I made a very nice grow cab using tile board (slick, shiny white surface) that worked as well as anything. My first grow I had fucking mirrors all the way around it.

My advice is not to take things personally; someone will *always* post something contrary to how you personally do it; that's not to say they are out to get you or trying to humiliate you. There's a million ways to skin these cats.

Isn't the emergency blanket pretty much the same as mylar only thinner ?

Im not suggesting that is , ( just asking my man )

I used those Duck diamond sheets on my last cab and it works pretty good ( expensive as shit though )

It did not have a price on the box and i had it on the counter with some other items and it rang up like $35 ( i thought to myself fuck )

I was about to sit it to the side , but i said fuck it and got it anyway lol

No, mylar has a smooth surface and it's a lot more reflective. You can actually recognize your face in mylar. For the price you can't beat panda film.

Everyone on the forum gives advice to the best of their ability. I find people are too quick to berate rather than educate. I prefer flat white paint, sure I lose 9% reflectivity compared to mylar but mylar has to be perfect to achieve 99%
Emergency Blankets:
These are ultra thin polyester blankets that are sold in most camping stores and are constructed of a single layer of polyester film that is covered with a layer of vapor deposited aluminum.

It is not very effective at reflecting light because it is so thin. Holding it between you and a light source, many small holes are noticed at the intersections of creases and the entire blanket is translucent to begin with, this coupled with the many creases that are in it when you purchase it takes away a significant amount of it reflectivity. It is very easily creased as well which also detracts from its ability to reflect light. And while it is reflects nearly 90% of radiant heat energy, it is only able to reflect around 70% of the light.

The largest advantage of using this type of material is that it is very cheap and therefore easily replaced. Emergency blankets can create hotspots if not attached flush to the wall so it is important that no air gaps exist between it and your supporting wall. The easiest way to attach this is to use tape (Aluminum or metal tape is recommended), as it tears very easily once it is cut or punctured.

cuz he asked for sumthing cheap that he can buy today from walmart cuz thats the only place he had around him,and its not as bad as foil(in my opinion ) when you have a 600w hps with no ventilation...
i dont take it personal i just call ppl out on their bs,thats just the kind of person i am,most comments on here are just opinions ,it doesnt effect me i already have a routine that im happy with,i just find it ignorant for somebody to post about CFLs being better than HIDs when they never used HIDs or vice versa(for example)
edit:i used mirrors my first grow too lol

I guess you realize that everything here is "opinion", even though much of it is based on facts. I wish you the best with calling people out but you might not like the results of that. :) Ignorance is plentiful here too, LOL.

Personally i feel some people answer questions off what they have read and not from there own personal experience.. also i would hope one wouldnt take someones advise with out researching it first..

hazed..
Exactly!! Unfortunately many use only the internet for research. Buy a good book or two. People will spend thousands on equipment, nutes, etc. and won't spend $20.00 on a book by a well-known grower.

As far as using foil , its not a good idea , it can create hot spots , i agree with you their

If someone must absolutely use foil then put the dull side out ,

But you can get emergency blankets at wal mart for about 3 bucks ( hell foil can cost 5 bucks ) so the emergency blanket is not only better , its cheaper ..:dunce:

As far as starting a thread just to complain about someone with a high post count giving bad advise to someone , Phisssh , come on now

Why not just call the dude out on it on the original thread and then give the op a better answer ?
If you're making foil hats to keep mind readers out, you want the shiny side out!

You're correct, an emergency blanket is just very thin aluminized mylar. The other stiff is just thicker, so it's stiffer, which makes it act more like a mirror. The aluminum scratches, flakes off over time. I prefer a good black and white poly. Fairly durable, cheap, choice of reflective qualities (black or white), easy to work with.

thats very true about the mylar having to be perfect, and the only way i could ever do that was by painting the wall and sticking ther mylar on like wallpaper, but it dont come off without part of ther drywall or whatever..so would flat or semi gloss be better reflector,im assuming semi gloss

I think there isn't really a need for this thread. I mean we all know the newbs around here. Plus experienced growers join everyday, i'd say far more newbs.

yeah ... a book does help to start with ... although i have one its nearly 25 yrs old... it covers all the basics from strains to soil and unfortunately outdated dwc setups.... but the basics still apply to the modern stuff .... i found useful on the whole...and i have researched on the net things i found wern't explained as fully as i'd like (i learn more from seeing rather then reading) so you tube and grow journals and builds on this site have helped me so much on understanding how thing work and the importance of details... i love details
