I got lucky . Mine doesn't eat or roll in poop . If he starts to sniff it I tell him "NO POOPIE !" and he gives me the "you're no fun !" look .

Dogs are always receptive to affection.
Cats be like - ok, now you can pet me - right after lifting it's tail for show and tell. Cats can be intentionally cruel.
