I have a few plants in my flowering room at different flowering times. I am just wondering how far from the plants should this light be? they have been under a good amount of cfls there whole grow.

The heat will be a major difference. Check out a "cool tube" if you can. My 400w kicks up heat....I could only imagine a 1000w. And make sure you can vent the room properly.

Oh...and congratz...you're gonna love the results.

got the fan just waiting till morning to install (bathroom exhaust fan) venting straight outside have a portable ac unit i will use if necessary. I am pumped to see what this thing can do... not sure of the cfm rating of fan but i would assume with no turns or restrictions whatsoever this will be more than adequete (sp?) I guess i will find out shortly. I know my temps are on there way up right now the room is about 70 if i end up closer to 90 will this cause stress?

sadly when my friend showed up the light was a 400 watt metal halide but i got the price down to 50 bucks for a full set up bulb has less than 100 hours on it... I know the kelvin rating is not ideal for flowering but will this light be better than my cfls? I have it hooked up and it is hot but i am taking care of it. I am planning on buying one of the 3000k MH bulbs but not until next week. I was a little disappointed when i realized my buddy was wrong about the light but 50 bucks for a complete and working 400 watt light was too good of a deal to pass up. It is very quiet hot and blinding bright but much quieter than i thought it would be

Well 400w is ok too. But not as good as 1000w. But still...I wouldnt complain about it...not for $50.

Being that its used....you should be looking into a replacement bulb. Besides...a used bulb wont be as strong as a new one. And Im sure a 400w MH is great. Mine is an HPS. Not sure what kind or how many cfls you're using so I coouldnt say the MH is definitely better. But it probably is. Good luck....and toss some pics up so we can see what you're working with.

I would use both the cfl and MH to give a little more spectrum to your lighting. The MH is more suited for vegging.

i still have 12 of the cfl's in there for side lighting and for the redder spectrum I am surprised with the minor difference in temps I got the hammer drill out to bust me a ventilation hole to the outside (block foundation) didnt make it by the wife...oops probably should have told her i intended on doing this. It would be a very temporary thing while my new little room is under construction so i understand her not wanting me to bust a hole through the wall kind of stupid for only a couple of weeks until I am moved out of that area. I got nervous and basically sat in the room for the first day the MH was hooked up only got up to about 80 degrees at peak. So I will just wait and leave the foundation intact... sorry for the rambling non-sensical thread just tried some of my bud i cut last week very impressed with cfl's
