I woulda waited, but thats just me
I was growing way before RUI was on my radar friend. You are right i did miss where he said he cut top only. Personally I would have let top go a bit longer too. To each their own though. From experience with WW and a lot of other strains that plant coukd pack a lot more weight on. If not double the weight a good 30% increase. Im not slamming the guy at all he did a very good job. I just know that before i had much experience I would cut early too....and its so worth waiting those extra 2 to 3 weeks. It's funny you say that... doubling in size sounds like RIU learned knowledge.
I think everyone was a little too anxious to post "too early bro" and did not notice that he only cut the tops and left the rest to ripen up.
You measure the maturity of the plant by the color of the leaves? Can you explain the connection to me? Sounds like Punxatawny Phil type predictions to me. haha.I don't have to know much about MJ to know that bang leaves should be yellowing near the top before harvest
Look @ picture with bang leaves still intact> not even starting to lose color yet
No way were those trichomes 100% cloudy yet
Perhaps the genetics I grow are the result of my experience... mostly 9 wk very productive branching type hybrids (think Skunk). Most of the weight is packed on by the beginning of week 7.I was growing way before RUI was on my radar friend. You are right i did miss where he said he cut top only. Op isn't waiting around to be appreciated. This is our thread now. This is why OP should take the early comments with a grain of salt.
I also don't think there is any relationship between the size of buds and their cannabinoid content. This is really a THC vs CBD argument. Different people will get different results from the same meds anyway. In that regard it is safe to say that potency has nothing to do with the calyx or bud size in general.

To be clear, contrary to what many believe THC *does NOT* degrade into CBD. The two are created from entirely different pathways, both from the precursor CBGA.
How much CBGA gets turned into THC vs CBD is mostly a factor of the strain genetics. Some strains make all THC, some make some CBG (eg indicas), and some make a lot or even nearly all CBG (ie the CBG-heavy strains like avidekel, harlequin, etc).
When THC degrades, instead it turns into CBN, which has significantly less psychoactive effect than THC, and can cause grogginess or confusion. Most people don't consider CBN to be a desirable cannabinoid (though there may be some who do. . .that's a bit subjective). This is what you get when you let the trichromes degrade (ie before OR after harvest).
Bottom line, while the time of harvest has *some* effect on THC/CBD ratios, the effect is actually quite minimal. If you want more CBD for medical reasons, the best way to get it is to start with a strain high in CBD to begin with.
Great post too. Glad to see others with the same opinion as mine.Perhaps the genetics I grow are the result of my experience... mostly 9 wk very productive branching type hybrids (think Skunk). Most of the weight is packed on by the beginning of week 7.
Say for a 9 wk plant that I keep as a mother... I'll try her at 8 weeks, 9 weeks, 10 weeks and nearly 11 weeks. 9 weeks is about 80% trichs milky (what the OP went by).
From 8 to 10 weeks I've never seen even a 30% increase... let alone 100%. More like a 5-7% increase in yield, with potency loss. Not only degredation, but also more fibers with less resin.
Like I said before... NL plant doesn't even swell more after the beginning of wk 7. If you ask me... the "too early, calyx would have swollen, double the weight" crowd is applying something they hear often to all plants.. when in fact it is just the truth about some plants. Example... Killing Fields from Sannies (NYCD)... REALLY packs on weight in the final 14 days... Not even close to double though... but that can be said for any plant. This is why I assumed you might be speaking from book knowledge.
Perhaps we just grow different type genetics... I know we are in the minority here... but this is why I only need a couple hits from my buds... when I pickup something on the market I take 4-5. More weight, more fiber, degraded resin.. commercial success, falls short of connoisseur.
That ^ is just my opinion and tastes. It's all about what you want.. It is your crop after all.
lololol You pay people to take your buds. You can send samples in for testing @ some Cali dispensaries for a fee.
That shit is hilarious!!! Props to the op, they look great. Everybody has different tastes, you did fine.lololol You pay people to take your buds.
are your eyeballs microscopes...?The Trichomes on the OP plant weren't 80% cloudy @ the time he cut the top off. Guaranteed.
yes you did, that's exactly what you said.I never said 2x the weight either smartass
