Sorry for your loss. Been in your shoes far too many times. First person I lost to the needle was my best friends older brother when I was 10. Lost my best friend in 89 the year after we graduated HS.

I've lost many friends and acquaintances since, many in the grave; sad to say more that it's just a matter of when. Never gets easier man, just try to pull something positive out of it all; learn from it and make sure you aren't next. I've been clean and sober (aside from MMJ) for a little over 10 years now.... Life is soooo much better

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, fear of losing some of my long time best friend is a daily thing..... A lot of people think I'm a dick but I'm not afraid to tell people they being stupid. I learned many years ago some things can be deadly and others can not. I try not to judge people but I take staying alive very seriously and don't get it when people let themselves go that far. I think that it great that we have such a tolerant drug culture but I also think that peoples should not treat the junkies or even worse the dealers of these subtances the same respect. Let them know their shit is not welcome. I hate when I'm at festivals and you see all the nodded of kids and no one is saying anything to them, fuck that, take it somewhere else if you don't respect life enough to preserve your own. I know some people get there by mistake but for the most part I think its the fact the people let them hang out and don't talk enough shit to them. Out of my friends about half have been able to get there shit together and the other half shows no interest but I don't pretend to approve of it and I know thats a lot of why the ones that quit wanted to.

I'm sorry for you loss, kick your bro in the ass or punch him in the face and tell him why! Give him a hug too!

Thanks for the nice words everyone.

MrE; Whats this Narcan? A drug to help stop the overdose?
Narcan reverses ODs, it's what is known as a narcotic antagonist. What it does is binds to the opioid receptors without activating them, it has a very high affinity for the opioid receptors so it will displace most agonists. It does cause what is known as precipitated withdrawals when too much is administered (and better safe than sorry is the standard operating procedure), but being sick as hell for an hour or two is better than dying.
It won't displace buprenorphine and some of the really potent fentanyls or etorphine analogs, but other than bupe those aren't available unless you make them yourself. Nalmefene (Revex) will reverse those, or most of them anyway, I know it displaces bupe and is stocked in labs doing research on the ultra potent opioids.

Sorry for your loss man. i haven't had this happen to me but know friends of friends that have had Od'd as well. We need to love life unconditionally. synthetic drugs are so bad for us in the first place it's crazy how they are still passed around, You notice how commercials for legal drugs have scenes in the background? it's to distract us for the majority message while it skips passed the endless list of side effects. I have smoked pot for 5 years straight and have never even had a headache. But i truly believe every should experience psychedelics at least once. someone above said it, we need to party responsibly.

Synthetic drugs are not evil by default nor are natural ones automatically good. Nature gives us morphine, cocaine, alcohol, and the belladonna alkaloids. And the ability to make simple modifications to them to make a whole host of other substances that are even more potent. There are tons of synthetic drugs that have done great things for humanity. We can replace failing organs thanks to synthetic drugs. HIV is no longer a death sentence because of synthetic drugs. MDMA, 2C-B, and LSD are all synthetic drugs.

I'm sorry for your loss. I too lost a friend to a needle.
When we were kids he was always the good looking funny
one with bags of confidence but smart too. Loved by
everyone, especially the girls. I shared my first doob with
him. Then sometime back in the early 90's he developed
a coke habit. He got out of control. We tried to help him
But there was no telling him. He ended up jackin Heroin
He died in 2005
It hit me HARD. My eyes welling up now just thinking
of him.
I feel your pain. Peace

RIP Tuck

this is never good, sorry for your loss. Seems I am losing friends to alcohol - they reach 50 or 55 and then find that they have destroyed their liver. Its not a pleasant way to go. Two this year alone, one in the hospital but one was found in his house after being dead for 5 days.

I was gonna say the same thing,it always starts with alcohol, then weed just isn't good enough, so they move on to harder stuff and the nerds then blame it on weed as a gateway drug. there is no GATEWAY drug.your gonna find what you like whether you smoked weed first or not. my rant over
This is an oversimplification. Some people have a deep hole of pain that needs to be filled. Sadly our modern world provides very few ways to get back to normal.

i'm sorry for your loss man, this is one hell of a reminder of why i got the hell off of the diesel.

fuck big pharma, and fuck junkies that act like your friend just to get you to drop your hard earned cash to get you hooked. the dope game is not a fun game, i'm sorry to hear your friend didn't get out in time.

if there's one thing the rooms have got right it's: jails, institutions, and death. those are the options a junkie has got, whether or not he realizes it.

It doesn't ALWAYS start with alcohol. At least it didn't for me. I smoked cannabis years before I ever got drunk. Started getting high either in or slightly before starting junior high, and didn't ever get drunk until freshmen year of high school. I completely agree that there is no gateway drug, but the first sentence of your post kind of makes it sound like you believe in the gateway theory. Because cannabis doesn't achieve the effect they want anymore they move on to harder stuff. I'm not saying you do believe in the gateway idea, you even say that you don't. I myself have never really moved past cannabis and alcohol, I've tasted coke, but I've never done lines or anything like that. A lot of my friends moved way past me in the world of drug use...coke, crack, meth, various opiates including heroin and Oxycontin. It's there actions that really make me not believe in the gateway theory. They were the kind of people who would have used whatever drug was put in front of them because they thought it was cool or fun, they didn't need to have smoked bud or drank before to end up where they did. End rant....
