kaiju

hi everybody! my name is unimportant but my nickname is MAG ive been breeding and growing a few years and ive tried to chronicle my little journey as best i could with the limited resources available to me. (shi**y cameras im sorry) I chose to keep it private until i had enough work put in that it woukd be a fun read not a thread with updates once every 2 weeks or something.

So i guess ill just get to it then, kaiju is the name of a cross that ive been working for a couple of generations and i feel that after finding my kaiju #10 plant ive really made some headway on this project.Kaijus literal translation from japanese is "strange creature" and i think this name is perfectly fitting for such a funky plant.

I bought a few packs of shiatsu kush (bc bud depot) that i had ran back in june 2013 and i found a few keeper mothers and 2 males that had superioir vegetative structure (tight nodes) when compared to the others and pollinated my 6 keepers (2 after harvest and smoke report) and let them finish out at about 8 weeks.

i then proceeded to pop 100 seeds started in trays then moved to cups (always in trays and outdoors) of my 2 superior mother lots and grew them out indoors under a 600w hps in a tent with manual air circulation had an incident with my dogs flipping trays and thought all was lost but i checked again after initially being so pissed i couldnt see straight and found 72 still viable seedlings about 60 made it. vegged those out to day 38 from seed and flipped them to 12/12 on feb 25 2014 around day 45 started culling males and making the final transplants into 1 gallon pots march 11 i found my last male and killed him because i had already found a plant that i wanted to use for experementing, while growing these out i noticed a rather high incidence of whorled phyllotaxy that seemed to correlate about 100% of the time ( of about 10 from different lots) with the plant being male so i assumed that it was a Y linked trait that i could take advantage of as a sort of early warning detector for males if that makes sense to anyone else. anyway i found a plant within my second run of kaiju f2 that blew my lame ass theory out of the water haha, regardless tho the male was still a very well rounded specimin aside from the whorling so i used him as my single male for the 2 groups anyway.by day 26 of flower i could tell #10 was special it was a suspected male at first because of how long it takes to show preflowers and had slower variegated growth that made it look all malformed and weird but i was not concerned about the veg as far as i was the finished buds and she chunks up somethin nasty! way ahead of all the others on resin coverage and density (aside from my #25 super resinous but at week 4 started throwin nanners so i clipped her) a few others shined as well but just not on the same level as this girl.march 31st i pollinated them and april 4 i decided #10 was so special i couldnt afford to lose her and seeing as it didnt look like the clones i took of her were gunna root i yanked, smoke and revegged her (clone did pull thru btw)

i culled 1/2 of my population at avbout week 4 because they were lacking in many traits i expect to see from an 8 week plant at this point. finished out and harvested at day 53 seeds were not used because of 2 late flower hermis being found, all superior clones 9,1,10,14,16,52,53 reran under a small t5 in my closet and pollinated with my whorled plant seed will be collected and dried in a week.

trays-cups-1gallons roots organic formula 707 under a 600w metal halide
3/05- 100 more seeds planted
3/11- 15 crack
3/24 84 kaiju transplanted into cups
4/12 first females spotted
lots of issues with heat, mites, andd straight up negligence on my part after a few weeks of flower i just got really discouraged this was a really lame group IMO didnt like any plant in particular all seemed average or below average according to my standards of densityy, resin coverage, smell, yield, blah blah blah
no intersex tho! so i pollinated them and roughed them up good towards the end to keep seed from the toughest ( also had to pass basic smell and yield test after harvest. but these are just for my own private reserve in case i ever want to play with them in the future.

2013-09-12_16-55-57_796.jpg here is a male that i used and a few sativa dominant phenotypes to show the extreme variation seen within this f1 population alone, i found tiny little indicas all the way up to these 2 juggernaut sativas that smelled of sweet cofee but just took so long to flower they were impractical in this project.

here are the pics of my final 3 f1 selections
#4 was selected for its super tight node development and the density and overall quality of bud produced (yields well too)
#3 was selected as my indica dom (later discontinued)
and the sativa spear donkey ear having plant in the first pic was #11 i beleive a high yielding sativa dom with lovely mature cofee smells and a thicker spicyness on the end.
all 3 were excellent smokes but #4 and #11 were found to be the type of high i was looking for and they yielded far better.

allcozied up in the back of my closet underneath my little hydrofarm t5 (229w i beleive but dont quote me) :)
you can see the differences in size between the plants partly due to cracking on slightly staggered days and partly from shock.
that goofy whorled looking little girl there is my kaiju.

after about a month and soome change in veg here they are under a 600w hps on 12/12 i stress the shit out of my plants let me tell you, light leaks, rough transplants, droughts ill put them through the ringer in an attempt to coax out any intersex traits that might be lurking in the ol genotype of any plants and i like making my strains tough so you dont have to be a farmer or horticulturist to grow them and get good bud :D
here are some pics of my kaiju #10 before transplant

more pics in flower and under the canopy i clean it up as i go so as not to shock them by ripping off a bunch of foliage but in a sog like this youve gotta keep that lower area clear or the bugs will rape you hard

heres that little surprise i was talking about on my #24 week 4 of flower can u see it? (hint:its a nanner)
I have a zero tolerance policy for any plants that exhibit intersex traits.
you can see how pretty she was getting tho andthe resin coverage was poopin all over the others.
and 1 more just as a reminder why i hacked her

at week 4 i culled like half of the population because they just werent showing me what i needed to see at this stage of flower and i wanted to focus on my studs.
i also chose to reveg my kaiju #10 shortly after week4 because the clone i took of it ( took 2 of every plant about 2 weeks into flower) wasnt rooting very well and i loved this plant.
