Well I hope everything turns out well for ya man, I'm rooting for ya. It seems like pruning is one of those never ending debates like organic vs non organic, soil vs hydro, coke vs pepsi...

I see where you're coming from. Right now preservation is the only thing that matter. You know your plants better than anyone. If trimming the bud leaves is gonna open it up to more light to help evaporate water and give it less area to collect then go for it. Even if they are right and pruning will decrease the yield, then so be it. It's better to lose an ounce of yield because you took off some fan leaves than lose 50% of the bud you worked so hard for. I'm guessing the main colas and denser sections are what's getting hit the hardest. Once those buds get thick there is a lot more space for moisture to collect and makes a great place for mold to hide. Wish I could be more help.
It's going to be Ok. Bad news is it rained again yesterday afternoon, and again this morning. It's sprinkled a little this evening. More bad news is the main cola on the big plant looks pretty bad. Good news is most of the remaining looks really good. It's also showing signs of finishing. Lot of pistils turning brown. It has cooled off a bit, so even though it's raining, it's not as hot. More good news is it's turning even cooler this weekend. It was only getting down to 78 or so at night, it's in the 60's tonight, and it's supposed to get into the 50's this weekend. That's got to help.

I think my biggest problem is that because I'm in the woods, when it was supposed to be 14 hours of light, my plants were not seeing it that way. I started flowering earlier, the one plant started in June, and everything was flowering in July, I think I would have been better off if I was so far along before it turned cooler. But the good thing at this point is that even my least avdvanced plant has been flowering for at least 7 weeks, so everything is getting close.

If they can just hang in there a little longer, I'll be good. I'm still confident in a big success.

if u look through peoples journals such as riddleme they would tell u that a plant will take nutes from the leaves that it needs if it is not getting it from the roots...the idea is to 'keep it green' and giving thre plant what it needs to stay green which results in greater yeild and simply better bud...wasnt knocking u in anyway was trying to inform trying to help...those 'carbs' u are referring to that is 'natural' are being sucked up from the fan leaves simply becuase it isnt getting it from the medium...the roots arent able to feed the plant what it needs resulting in the plant taking these 'carbs' from the fan leaves...i understand that u have a mold problem...but that doesnt mean to reject anoter...
Well like I said, I do appreciate your thoughts. But, all of my plants have been fed the same, so I know it's not a deficiency problem. And flowering plants are going to lose fan leaves, I have read quite a few grow journals. Not rejecting anyone, I just don't agree with your analysis.

Well, why don't we just move along.

How about an update.

There's good news and bad news. Why don't we start with the good.

3 of my 5 plants are doing great. They are obviously huge if you check my picutres. They are full of buds, and the best news of all is that they are finishing. About half of the pistils are turning color, brown, red, etc. They are a week or two from being done. I do have a little bit of mold or bud rot, whatever, but it is only effecting maybe 5% or the buds.

My little odd ball that started blooming really early, is still blooming. I think this plant is just totally screwed up in it's head. The plants that started later are as far along, if not further.

We have cool weather for the next few days, with no rain. That's real good news.

Bad new is the big plant still looks bad. But after a few days to really evaluate, I don't think it's mold on this one. It almost looks like it got something toxic on it, like if you spray round up (herbecide) around your garden, and some got on something you did not want it too. That did not happpen since they are in the woods, but something toxic affected the plant. But, it's not the end of the world.

I think I will be harvesting in the over the next three weeks. It will be very staggered.

Ok guys were to begin.

The little plant that started flowering in June started going down hill fast. Chopped it two weeks ago.
Remember when it showed that soft spot at the base of the stalk? When I chopped I broke it off at the bottom and it was full of termites. They had eaten damn near the whole stalk. Surprised it made it as long as it did.

Dried, I got two quart mason jars full of what I would call pretty good commercial. It's been dried for a week, and curing for a week. It has a decent smell and taste that I hope gets better with time.

Big plant turned into a salvage operation also. I chopped most of it this past weekend. I'm not sure how it will be.

The other 3 plants are sweet. I chopped the top half of them this past Saturday, they finished nicely. Left the bottom another week now that it can get more sun.

I've got pic's and I'll just do one big update when I'm finished.

So how's it going man? Guessing the rest is probably down by now. How did you make out in terms of final yield and smoke report?

Hey Sonar,
Things turned out pretty good. I ended up with 12 quart mason jars full, and another smaller jar of shake and scrap etc. I dont have any scales but my best guess is that a jar is between 2 and 2 1/2 ounces, so I got somewhere between a lb and half and two pounds.
I've got about three grades, some pretty good commercial, some nice, and some really nice.

It hasn't completely cured yet, but I will say it has an unusual smell, most of it. The one plant that looked different has a normal kind of skunky smell, but the other very unusual.

I've got a bunch of pictures, that I haven't been able to load onto the computer. I saw your post and wanted to reply, but I'll try to get the pictures posted this weekend.

How is yours doing? I'm going to check you out.

That's awesome man. Been following this since the beginning and glad to hear it was successful. Hope you plan on sticking around RIU even though your harvest is done for the year. To be honest, I probably won't be around quite as much until next season unless I get an indoor going before then, but keep in touch and give me a heads up if you get another grow going next season. I'll mainly just be lurking around. Don't forget to throw some pics up when you get a chance! But yeah man check out my journal I just put some new pics up today.

Finally, as promised some pics from my harvest.

I'm not going to re-cap the entire grow, the thread isn't that long, take some time to read it if you are just joining. I did run into some problems towards the end, with heavy rain when they were fully flowering causing some mold/bud rot.

I harvested over 3 weeks in Sept. The first week, I just harvested the little plant that started flowering in June. I'm not really sure what the deal with this plant was, but check out the picture of the base of the stalk. I had noticed it being soft about 5 weeks or so before the harvest. It never seemed really finished, but it started to look bad, and from the looks of the stalk, I"m surprised it lasted as long as it did.

But, it turned out pretty good.

I'll post the rest of the harvest over the next couple of days in the order of the three weeks

Yeah, it looked like termites.
I don't know the weight, I don't have any scales.
I got two quart jars off of this plant.

I'm gonna post the pics from the other 4 plants later. I got 10 quart jars and two smaller jars off of that.

I'd estimate a jar is between 2 to 2.5 ounces?

Well this is the rest of it.

I ended up with 12 quart jars, the smaller jar in the picture, and another smaller jar that has all of the wispy buds from the bottom limbs.

I don't have any scales, but I figure the quart jars have 2.5 ozs, then it is about 2lbs total.

Nice job man! Yeah those 2 quart jars are about 2 oz depending on how tight you pack them and the density of the bud. I kept mine kind of loose and only filled them like 9/10ths of the way up and they were almost exactly 2 oz. BTW I dunno what you plan on doing with all of it but I got a decent digital scale off ebay for like $15. Generally what I've noticed, if you aren't use to looking at that much bud, you have a lot less than you think. When I chopped my NL plant I thought "damn this has to be at least 4 oz". Then it started drying and shrinking and I thought "well maybe only 3 oz." By the time It hit the jars it was barely 2 oz, haha. Kind of pathetic considering it vegged for like 3 months.

I've been done for about 3 weeks now (had to pull a little early due to shitty weather) and I'm already missing it. Wish I could do some indoor. Already thinking about next year and it's still a long ways away, haha. You plan on doing it again next year? It was good to get this first grow under our belts. With what we know now, I think the yields will be much better (well for me at least). I had some pretty shitty spots and was still able to pull about around 11 oz.

Check out my thread if you already haven't. Got some pics and my final "summary." Wouldn't mind getting your input. Take it easy man and congrats!

Thanks buddy,
I don't really need the scales, I'm gonna keep it all!!! I've got a few close friends that I will keep hooked up, but it's really for personal use.

I consider it a big success. I didn't have enough sun, and I was growing in 5 gallon buckets, my goal was a 1/4lb per plant, and I exceeded that, so it's all good. If it's 2 oz per jar, then it's over 1.5 lbs, somewhere between that and 2lbs of pretty decent weed and I only invested around $100 bucks including my seed. I'm happy.
