keeping plant short

i am an amatuer grower, and am wondering what conditions will keep my plants at a low height, thanks

bending them will keep them low.......

im looking for the same thing as toke.

what do you mean by bending? like tieing em down?

Are u meaning tie the top to the ground, give it more light and keep it shorter ?

You can squeeze the stem and bend it over without it breaking. You can also give the plant less nitrogen so it doesnt shoot straight up. Keeping the lights close helps a lot too. Under low light conditions the plant wants to stretch towards the light.

Is there a time in the plants life to tie them down? I have read that if you tie the top to the bottem of stem or near, you cause the plant to grown shorter, but when should this be done? 12"? or just wen you can?

If you are a newbie... DON'T try to train your plants by bending and twisting your little baby cause it might die... Just flower it early (around 10-12 inches tall) and she will stay short and have buds... keep the lights close and feed them enough(not too much).

Topping your plant will keep her shorter as well, here's a topped plant at 6 weeks old.

You can keep your lights close to the plants or you can train them (low-stress training). Topping cuts off the main growth shoot. There are multiple ways to top your plants. Try reading through the GrowFAQ and searching the site and if you still have questions feel free to message me.

homegrownboy thats a 6 week old pplant? Man mine two weeks and some day and it just growing its 3set of leaves.. this is bull shyt. How much lights u using i got a 40w 48in bulb and 2 17wat 2 ft bulbs im bout to get me a hps

dude is that really a 6 week old plant or is that a 6 week old clone cause my 6 weeks hardly has side shoots growing anywhere and u got them coming out all over?

cause if its 6 weeks from clone i believe cause my clones are like that too

but they grow faster cause they are mature

My current grow was 5 weeks from sprout when I went to 12/12 and they were 18-20 inches then. They are now pushing 5 ft. This is in hydro. Anyway, here's the answer to the OP:

1. Know what you are growing, different strains are vastly different in final height.

2. Know your target height due to space, height of lights whatever. Leave some room for error.

3. Assess your horizontal space. Are they far enough apart and do you have room on the sides to accommodate a lot of spreading? If yes then top, maybe a few times. Shoot for a shorter plant with a canopy of main colas.

4. Go to 12/12 when your tallest plant is about 40% of the final height you can handle. Leave the lst until you have some more experience.
