She looks good. If you can afford it, I highly recommend you add more 2700k watts when you switch to flowering. Whilst it's possible to produce flowers with 70w, you're more likely to produce a higher yield with at least 100W of 2700k. Just a heads-up.

Thanks. I don't LST before it grows into the screen because there isn't much need for it in my setup. If you look at the lifecycle of most of my grows, the plants seem to remain really short and bushy during veg, with super tight internodal growth. Luckily, the canopy tends to remain fairly level until it reaches the screen, at which point I flatten it out along the screen until I decide to push some of the tops through the screen a few inches before it settles into bud production.
 
i ended up switching to 12/12. added the 4th bulb from the 4pack of 23w (100w) cfl bulbs and bought a 40w (150w) 2700k for flower.
132w in total hopefully is good enough.
 
i have one about my plant. didn't want to start a thread about it, so i figure i can ask you. (don't mean to clog up your thread, btw)

and i'm thinking that my bottom leaves (opposite of each) are yellowing a bit due to N-deficiency.. are they? if so, is it time to feed? (last feed was day16. she's day29 now)
if i don't need those branches, can i just cut off the smaller/flimsy branches at the bottom?

Yeah, it definitely looks like it could use a feed. I'm not sure if it's N or K deficient. Is the plant on a specific feeding schedule?

Removing the dying lower leaves is fine, as long as you're addressing whatever is causing the leaves to die in the first place.
 
it sort of is on a feed schedule. i was gonna feed it tomorrow which would be 2wks since its first 1/4 feed.
 
I'm not a soil grower, but one feeding every two weeks seems a little infrequent to me. Did your nutes come with a schedule? Like 1 tsp per gallon of water every third watering? Or something like that..
 
yeah its every 10-14 days. 1/4tsp w/ every watering pg or 1/2 tsp pg. its been using the nutrients in ocean forest soil, which last up to 30 days.
3/10 will mark 30 since transplant (5gal from 1gal).. but its still using the nutes from before it, which seems maybe why its looking like that?

its first feed was too early since i didnt know about the nutes lasting that long.. so tomorrow would really be its first feed. (or i hold off)

she's 8" tall now. (from earlier today. day29, day3 flower)

how exactly do you promote tight inter-node spacing and short squat plants? i have ONE small cab area for veg and flower trying to maximize space obviously genetics matters but any hidden secrets im missing?

The truth is I'm not exactly sure, but it's symptomatic of my grow environment because all of my plants seem to start the same way, regardless of the strain. The only thing I can think of is the position of my two bulbs, and the way they hang over/around the plant when it's a seedling. Bulb proximity to the plant when you're growing with CFLs can make or break a grow.

Thanks dude. She's looking pretty good, although in hindsight I feel I should've vegged her for another 3-4 days. There's still a 6ish inches of spare height left in my cabinet, so in order to max out my yield, I really need to squeeze every inch of space out of my grow environment. These slim margins can be the difference between 2.2 zips, and 3 zips, which is a significant difference, imo.

That plant looks amazing. I love your set up. In fact I want to try it out. So I was wondering do you start the plant in rockwool or what do you do with a seed from when it germinates until you get it in the clay balls? or do you just put a germed seed strait into the clay balls?

so your pump and everything is contained right in that tub? how often do you change out the water or do you just add more? how do you change it out if its contained all in one like that?
 
Thanks. This cabinet has served me fairly well over the years, but I'm just a hobby grower.

So firstly, I germinate the seed using the paper towel method. Once it has a decent-sized tap root (about 1 cm long), the seed goes into a small rockwool cube. It usually takes a couple more days for the seedling to sprout up through the cube, so until that happens, I just leave the small cube (without burying it under the pebbles) and hand water it until the seedling sprouts. When it does, I put the small rockwool cube into a large cube, and bury it under the clay pebbles and turn the lights on.

The pump and feeding solution are contained in the tub below the tray. Check the Maui Waui link in my signature and you'll see how I set up my box. It's a pretty simply flood & drain system, with a 16L tank below the grow cabinet, and a water pump which floods the grey tray for 15 mins, three times a day during lights on, then drains back down into the tank.

Firstly Sunny she looks good. Also see what your saying about her not being tall enough for proper proximity to lights.

All in all thanks for sharing, I've definitely learned alot from you.

Thanks, Skinny. Just to clarify, I raise the bulbs when I take pictures, but ordinarily the bulbs are much closer to the plant. What the pics illustrate (I hope) is that my cabinet has enough height for the plant to have been a few inches taller since I have approx 10 inches of space to raise and lower the bulbs without burning the plant. The buds are roughly 6 inches tall (from screen to top of bud), but I could've vegged for a few more days, which would've resulted in a little more stretching and consequently taller buds.

I find it difficult to judge with precision when to flip the switch to 12/12 because I grow a variety of different strains, and each behaves differently under the same conditions.
