kief to hash oil experiment

Hello guys I have been experimenting with turning unpressed kief into dabble hash oil, I'm using girlscoutcookies kief it has a very nice savoring aroma.. So first I took a gram of kief and put it in a mason jar and added 95% ethanol an shook for aprx 3 minutes , after I strained it through my 25 micron screen & an unbleached coffee filter, then let it air evap the ethanol when there was only white left over water I placed it on a double boiler very low temp until all was gone scraped an placed onto my silicon mat to dry the extraction pulled 45% an was dark golden and was snap consistency I could bend an break like shatter but still had a slight I guess taffy like consistency when pulled slow but broke when pulled fast I could handle it with ungloved hands without it sticking so it was very stable it retained hints of its original kief Taste an smell but nothing like the original also the kief color was was golden blonde yet the oil was a darker gold very dark where it was thicker where as I thought it would be somewhat lighter the effects were amazing very potent starting in the face then working to the body. I redid the extraction with 10 grams of kief and got the same results in every aspect except getting 46%. So on the third extraction I used ten grams again but winterized the enthanol solution kief In all after strained an evaped place on double boiler this time noticed a lack minute dark specs so it did remove slight lipids fats and waxes but not many after scraping got the same result in color and consistency maybe slightly less taffy like but still had slight pull this time it pulled 45% , so it's currntly tacked up with direct fan on it to get any remaining moisture an is being flipped daily, it peels off in one piece tho. So after letting the strained material dry each weighed the remaining 64&65% of the beginning ten grams.. It looked like the starting kief without its golden look after looking at it closely with a fine microscope then at kief it looks to me like a skeleton like THC shell like the ethanol permeated the shell an took the essential oil with it. So I'm wondering if anyone could verify that or anything really haha, and I'm also wondering if the left over material could have any CBD's or CBN's left In it that could be used for something else .. As for the oil I'm wondering if maybe using butane first then winterizing would make the oil a lighter color or pull more terps for flavor an aroma I have enough kief to try different extractions methods or tweeks so any input would be greatly appreciated. Please no negative or rude comments good vibes only. Let's get the best we can out of this thread, thanks everyone

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg This is the kief then winterized oil and then the left over material after the winterized run has been fan drying for about 60hrs now and is now very brittle more shattery then before still very clear I'm happy with how it came out but would really like to see if I can get the color lighter like the starting kief or even more original flavor I even used no heat to evap.. Is the ethanol stripping some flavor away or not pulling it with the extraction?

I did use Jo heat and the oil still came out dark like that as said I let it air dry with a fan for 60 hrs

I really want to learn how to do this.after. a harvest trim est i have bags of fan leaves covered with thc.is there a vedio or step by step instructions? Thanks guys

you said a double boiler steam at a min is 170 (i am completely making that number up) either way...

orrrrr how old is the keif also plays a huge factor into color

age of matrial from time of harvest to time of blasting
time of harvest
heat

are the 3 main factors in dark oil

Thank you twitch I have come to figure that as well the time from chop to oil is a very big determining factor as well as how converted your THC an mature your plant is which make more sense now my last trim blast was very light yellow budder, white almost when dried and that was chop to oil an a little premature ( a patient couldn't wait to cut it... Then didn't realize how long curing took lol) not full resin glads but it was extremely head rush your ready to run I like body effects more tho


Jojodan it depends on what you want for a final product an what you plan to do with it I'm thinking you want to make Hash Oil out of your trim from cropping to smoke? Or am I wrong

I noticed myself, age of material and heat played a big factor of how the oil came out as far as visual. But to be honest, I've made oil that came out as dark as Batman and it still got me lifted. So it depends, are you going for personal or other.

Others but they don't care either way they think the same it's gets them medicated and shatters and without having to use butane I consider a plus I'm not hating on it but it this works maybe keep it up but doubt it , Maybe using fresh dryice kief would make it lighter but that another time

yes the fresher the kief the better.

Also what you described is exactly what happens when you blast premature stuff, nothing wrong with it, it is going to come out really light and real heady racey high. looks killer and the public assumes the gold stuff is the best, but like you said you had some dark stuff that was killer.

My theory is; When it ripens or the thrichs amber up on the plant, is when the darker oil is good.

i shake my buds with dry ice through 200 micron filter then run the hash with butane it works great, heat at 175-190 degrees F till bubling stops to gas out and decarboxilate incase i deside to make chocolate candy

go on ebay and get a 200 micron hash filter bag find some dry ice,,,go on youtube and search making hash with dry ice,,you will be very happy with what you get out of those leaves

deferret how much material/kief do ya got? im in the same boat, how are your results looking an how are you extracting the kief?

Ethanol extracts what is there, though you may lose the monoterpenes purging the alcohol.

I've done soooo many bammer to gold conversions with very old (usually straight from mexico) crap trim sift,

Freeze the kief and the ethanol for a day or so, get a bunch of cups with 2 coffee filters rubber banded on, distribute kief evenly onto filters in cups and place all cups in the freezer for an hour, after take one cup at a time out with the ethanol and pour ethanol over the pile of kief and place back in the freezer for one minute
After take filter out quick of the cup and trashit, the remaining shit after a minute is bam Chlorophyll goo, repeat with the other cups, happy smoking my friends

You can soak it in chilled butane using a stainless thermos.

We extract hash with a Mk III, using a 1 1/2" X 6" column.

whats the difference between doing that, and blasting half can into my tube, stopping just before it starts to drip and letting it sit for 5 mins/shaking and letting it rinse and soak every weed particle in there, then blast another half can or so through it pushing out some very golden butane out the end?

another thing. ive noticed with kief.. is .. it makes for a DARKER EXTRACT.. then bud run or even TRIM runs.. . even when i add kief to nug or trim runs.. the batch itself comes out super dark.. even if i purge low temps.. or not.. so i will say.

and.. letting it SIT in the TUBE. might get you a better yield.. but the more contact. the more waxes lipids and parafins are extracted.. making for a less healthy extract. and not a nice of an extract that it could be..

i blow my tubes.. put into a glass pyrex to sit while i do the rest of the tubes.. and then i have another pyrex.. and spray another few cans threw into a different pyrex.. so i have QUALITY in pyrex 1.. and edible quality in pyrex 2.. but sometimes.. if the tubes stay cold enough freeze tubes 48-72 hours. pyrex 2 will be quality sometimes..

so if u want quality.. use a few pyrexs.. and spray into the first until clear.. let it spray for maybe 10 seconds -15 seconds CLEAR.. and then put down do your next tube.. or if u dont have another tube.. let the tube sit for 2-3 mins.. and spray into second pyrex..

u will thank me if your going for super good quality..

ME PERSONALLY.. i dont CARE about YIELD.. as much as i care about QUALITY... so even crappy yields of amazing stuff is acceptable for me atleast.
