Kimmel brings up the 'burning question' - Marijuana Legalization At White House Dinner
from TokeofTheTown

"What is with the marijuana crackdown?" Kimmel asked, looking directly at President Obama.
Comedian Jimmy Kimmel addressed the issue of marijuana legalization while delivering his remarks at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night.

"What is with the marijuana crackdown?" Kimmel asked, looking directly at President Obama, reports Paige Lavender at the Huffington Post. "Seriously, what is the concern? We will deplete the nation's Funyon supply?" A slightly uncomfortable-looking Obama smiled broadly at this.

"Pot smokers vote, too," Kimmel continued. "Sometimes a week after the election, but they vote."

Kimmel then challenged the crowd -- including Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian and George Clooney, and media starts like Brit Hume.

"I would like everyone in this room to raise your hand if you've never smoked pot," he said.

Only a few hands went up.

Kimmel then said directly to President Obama: "Marijuana is something that real people care about."

Obama recently said he doesn't "mind a debate" about pot legalization, but he's also increased a crackdown against medical marijuana producers across the nation, including a high-profile raid on California training school Oaksterdam University.

The President mentioned the crackdown in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, attempting to clarify his 2008 comments that he was "not going to be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws."

Obama tried to parse his original comments, claiming that the recent crackdown on dispensaries was in line with his intent.

"What I specifically said was that we were not going to prioritize prosecutions of persons who are using medical marijuana," Obama said. "I never made a commitment that somehow we were going to give carte blanche to large-scale producers and operators of marijuana -- and the reason is, because it's against federal law."

"I can't nullify Congressional law," Obama told Rolling Stone. "I can't ask the Justice Department to say, 'Ignore completely a federal law that's on the books.' What I can say is, 'Use your prosecutorial discretion and properly prioritize your resources to go after things that are really doing folks damage.' As a consequence, there haven't been prosecutions of users of marijuana for medical purposes."

But Attorney General Eric Holder was a guest of The Huffington Post at the correspondents' dinner. Before it began, a HuffPost reporter noted to the Attorney General that Obama's reference to "congressional law" was misleading, because the President could simply remove marijuana from its "Schedule I" designation, thereby recognizing its medical use with a stroke of the pen.

"That's right," Holder admitted.

A Holder deputy told HuffPost after Kimmel's speech that there is no "coordinated war" against medical marijuana, but rather a few individual cannabis dispensaries are breaking both state and federal laws.

MY take- The President says he's 'open to debate' on the topic. Translation- 'You can talk and scream all you want, but I'm never going to do this for you.'
The President claims "he cannot change congressional law", Translation- 'I'm going to give you, the voters, the american public who CLEARLY want this, a sad sorry ass excuse and hope you'll buy it'.
Also stated- "As a consequence, there haven't been prosecutions of users of marijuana for medical purposes." Translation- Only SOME of the recent busts have been ops that were out of line, but not all. They twist the 'rules' to thier favor every time and of course an illegal situation arises.

In summary- DON'T VOTE this clown back in, he will NEVER give you what we, the American people want and he just admitted it.

Then who should we vote for, Romney? Lol. I Romney's a bigger nazi when it comes to pot.
ALL Politicians are potential liars...it's a known fact. However, when they openly make statements that PROVE they are liars, it's time to pull the plug. I don't care who you vote for as they ALL SUCK. Just don't fall for that "Yes, we cannabis' bullshit line again. I'm tired of hearing that drawn out lie that fooled SOOO many (young&old) voters. Vote for yourself, vote for Marc Emery... be creative! At least your vote would be 100% FOR someone who IS on our side, not against it.

Along that line...if the MAJORITY of Americans voted for themselves (or someone else not on the ballot) that would send the MESSAGE to all political parties that we are tired of them force feeding us bottom of the barrel people to represent US. If they cannot provide a WORTHY candidiate for me to vote for then I will NOT waste my vote on someone I cannot beleive in, trust or promote. Therefore, I vote for myself. This could actually send a very strong message as they look at the voters stats afterwards very carefully to see what % of what groups they got. ;)

nothing will cost obama the election.. history dictates that he will serve a second term as a war pres..
imagine that you are made president of foster farms chicken - do you start dismantling everyone's job to suit the chickens? no, they will fire your ass.. Obama and any president of this country will uphold party lines and religious, quasi-moral boundaries until hell freezes over.. it is up to the people of a democracy to take hold and change unfairness when we see it - not to leave it up to the top dogs to decide for us..!
