Yea starting to think about harvesting, got a 30X loop. On the small one and topped one trics are maybe 40/60 clear and cloudy apart from the odd area of amber which is mostly on the tips of leafs which would be trimmed off anyway. One of the colas on the topped one is significantly more amber then the rest of the plant. Overall would say about 50% of pistols are orange now apart from the lolly-popped one which is only about 10% and has the most bud on it - has been at the back of the closet the whole flowering time so think conditions are slightly better and more stable.

Am sure the topped one will be ready to harvest first and will give the other two at least an extra week or two- once the topped one is out there will be room to use the 125W red light as a side light hanging it vertically.

Def want to let the bud mature properly tho, not gona chop before they are 100%.

Anyone know if its worth or possible to harvest parts of a plant at a time i.e from top down to let lower bud sites get a bit more direct light and mature a bit more?

Alrite, forgot to mention about my take on partial harvests, 2 out of the 3 times i have grown i have harvested the colas first, about a week to 10 days before the rest of the lady.

There is no problem with doing this what so ever. Infact i would highly reccomend it as without the cola it gives the side branches and lower bud sites to get full light exposure which they could not previously due to the colas obstructing the light.

When you feel the colas of any of your plants are 100% ripe (as per dr zues's thread) then feel free to chop them off and let the rest of the plant go for another week or so. You will be suprised how your little nugs at the bottom will swell up in that week or so with full light exposure, as you bring the lights within inches of the little buds.

Also look out for the calyxes to properly swell up, the pistils will literally start to shrivle in. Have a look at this for visual reference

I cant stress enough how important this is when deciding harvest time, the texture of the end product (once dried and cured) is very different to any commercially available bud.

Another thing, once harvested and dried, if you are patient unlike myself and resist the urge to smoke all that shit up after just a few weeks of curing, it totally pays of to cure them for upto 3 months, you will be suprised how the bud ages and changes to something other wordly! much like some of the finest leathers and wine available haha. I am sure you will have the patience lol Most of the stuff in at the dam is cured for around 2-3 months before being ready for sale, i guess thats what makes it so special.

My mouth is watering already, I bet it will taste fucking next level! haha

Yea going to take the colas off first have had a read about it and seems good. Am going to start flushing the topped one and small one after their next feed today, getting a reasonable amount of amber and most pistols are orange and going inward think they'll be fully ripe in about a week and a half - the lollypopped one is still growing in height (slowly but surely) and pistols are still about 80% white which is good anyway to spread the harvest out a bit.

Got a small jar i'll set aside a nice small amount of bud in to cure slowly for an occasion in the near future and see how that turns out lol.

Yea looking forward to the first proper smoke of this have tried to make sure its on another level from the usual weed you get about ie keeping organic and waiting till fully ripened as well as the strain. Haven't named them apart from the: "topped one", "lolly-popped one" and "wee one" lol. Heard naming your homegrown produce can create a bit of an emotional attachment lol don't want to be crying my eyes out as i'm puffing away on poor Jane (apart from with laughter). Haha as if.

Anyway will try upload some pics soon don't have camera just now but might try with phone.

Just quick update for anyone interested.

Plants are 9 and a half weeks flowering. "Topped one" and "Small one" have been getting flushed for just over a week now buds are nicely fattened up, pistols are nearly almost all turned in just waiting for them to all go dark and get decent amount of amber in the buds, would probably say are 10:75:15 clear:cloudy:amber on the actual buds then will harvest the top colas hoping in about a week, am getting itchy!

Lollypoped one is still getting fed with nutes and molasses and looking good, even lower side branches have nice wee buds on them that will fatten up when top is chopped.

Only concern is topped one is growing little buds at the base of the stems that are like little balls- not sure if these are "ball sacks" or what? they have pistols coming out of them and when i've cut them off they have a little black ball in the middle, looks kind of like a seed forming? Anyone know what this sounds like? Have been chopping most of them off but is quite alot and is't easy.

Still dont have camera but will in next few days so will def get pics up asap. Thanks.

So decided to chop the main cola off the small plant and see how it goes Trics were pretty much all cloudy with a bit of amber.

Hung it up inside quite a big cardboard box with small vents in the side, beside a radiator so should be reasonably warm, ventilated and in the dark - as it should be to start drying???

Any comments? Advice for curing anyone? Was planning on keeping in the box until starts to get dry on out side (stems bending not snapping) then putting into sealed jars opening once/ twice a day.

Nice grow man. I'm also growing out some milky way. Its a great plant, looooves the nutes. I am also running FF nutes and was able to give it 2x the recommended dosage no problem. I have a question for you, how much did they stretch during flower? Mine is going on 2 feet and I'm putting it into 12/12 in a week...

Alright man, that looks like a very nice set up, plant looking beautiful and healthy. Good to see some other milkyways growing I could't find anything when I was starting which is half the reason I put up a journal for anyone that was in that position.

Yea I had a bit of nube error with the nutes on mine but they do hoover them up. My plants grew about double the hight they were when I switched the lights though the one i lollypoped probably has tripled. I've been having to keep piling books underneath the other ones to keep the tops at the same level. I would expect yours to come somewhere in between double and triple sine I had a bit of an issue with the nutes and you look like you know what your doing.

I only veg'd mine for 3weeks but kind of wish i'd let them go longer and get bigger but did't really want the grow to go for too long especially being my first one. That plant looks nice, sure your set for allot of very nice bud.

Havent smoked any of the bud i chopped the other day is still drying, i've got quite alot on at the moment so not in any real hurry to smoke it untill the weekend and make an event of it will def report on it when I do. The bud thats drying just now smells really sharp cant wait to get it blazing.

You got a journal or anything? Whats the rest of your set up lights etc? You or anyone els reading this know anything about the genetics of Milkyways???

Make sure the cola doesnt get too much heat and try n get a fan blowing air around the bud as its hung, wait untill the main stem seems light and almost willing to crack a bit. Then jar em

Try and open and air the jars as frequent as every 6 hours for the first few days then cut it down as moisture goes down.

Have you tasted any yet?

I don't have a grow journal. I'm growing with a fresca sol in a 4x4 tent. Right now I have a 1000w mh in it, on monday I'm putting the hortilux super hps in and will be starting 12/12. I am also growing out some mako haze from kiwi seeds. Would love to see some bud shots once you get it dried.

That pic is at about 5-6 weeks, its a little less than 24 inches.

Guest999 that set up sounds sweet would be great to see some pics when you get later into flowering and see how they turn out under that hps. Will get some pics up when its dryed.

Cheeze me as regards to drying the bud seems to be getting there slowly isnt to warm but probably extra ventilation would help have opened one side up of the box that is against the wall to get a bit more air in but keep it dark. Have ordered a PC fan im going to put on the side blowing air out and it will just passively draw air in the vents i've made to keep circulation and dry air coming in (more for when the rest of the bud is chopped). From what i've read aslong as it ready to jar in 3-5/6 days it should be fine?? will put it somewhere slightly warmer if its taking much longer than that. Havent tried any yet will make sure some is dry enough to smoke by Sunday.

Yeah man, keep the thread open or something and I can post some pics once they hit flower. I have uped the date and will be putting them on 12/12 Friday. How long did the Milky Way take?

Yea will leave thread open. Think leaving them to veg as long as you can would be good will only end up with more bud and the bud fattens up to hell. Chopped the small one ive got drying just past 10weeks trics were mostly cloudy with bit of amber and bit of clear. Got two more still going which will be 11weeks tomorrow. Just leaving them till there fully ripe and have a good proportion of amber trics as in no hurry to harvest since i've got that small cola drying and have always said i would't chop till their 110%

The kiwi website says not to harvest until the are 1/3 amber.

Spot on, thats the right attitude to have.

With regards to drying, 3-5 days should be perfect time for the bud to dry enough to jar, remember having a little bit of moisture and jarring is good as when you burp the jars the slow proccess of the bud letting the moisture go and come back will have very possitive effects on smell and taste.

What You should do is test this cola out with a small cure, then when the other stuff is done, let it cure much longer and you will taste/feel the difference first hand.

A bit off topic but on a side note, have a look at my 3 plants iv currently got going, wont be around to see them harvest but what the hell I see it more of a test to get to grips with outdoor growing.

Great thread...I enjoyed the pics...I hope mine look that great...

Bad news, just got home from being away for the last few days and when I went to check on the plants the lights were off when they should have been on

The socket the power going into the closet is a bit dodgy and the plug can go off its not fully pushed tight in so looks like some how its came slightly loose and gone off while i've been away From the timers it went off just as it switched to go on, i've been away for two days and watered the plants the day i left the soil still feels a bit damp so guessing the power was screwed the first morning i was away as would probably be alot dryer if it was only this morning.

So basically the plants have been in the dark for the last two days

I turned them back on just now thinking will give them 4 or so hours just to keep them ticking then twelve of dark and back into 12/12.

How bad is this for the plants???

Is really annoying as theyr so close to being finished.

Good news, the stuff chopped last week has been curing for the last few days and have a nice bit of bud that i've been drying a bit faster for blazing tonight.

Anyone had any experience of the plants getting screwed like this?? Anyone know what this is going to do and what is best to do for the plants?

Ok so no one got any ideas/ advice about the lights going off for two days?



Had the first proper smoke of the bud that has been chopped last week and lets just say this is my first grow but i was not disappointed. Is seriously potent stuff, high as a kite probably the best way to describe it, a really strong and intense high, 3 joints between three of us had us all melted for hours. The bud is sticky as hell and gritty with crystals if you try to break it up with your fingers.

Duno if its clear in the pics but the trics seem to have swollen up in the dark. I've read this happens and some people leave their plants in the dark for up to three days just before harvesting but the trics do seem to be all taller pushing out wards and swollen.
