these are cree cxb3590 based diy lights which are the most efficient cob led emmiters, and are what the majority of this forum is using/switching to. essentially you can get the same amount of photons as a 1000w hps with 700w or so of cxb3590's so that gives a pretty significant heat and electric advantage. growmau5's youtube channel is the best place to learn about it, check out his diy led tutorials

what size room is that?

Just watched a bunch of those video's to, thanks! I am excited to do this. I have 6 1000's in one room to replace and 2 1000's in another, plus 2 600's in veg. So not sure how many of these cob's I would need, guessing a lot though.

Are there different spectrums to worry about with these lights or are they all the same? and they work in flower and veg?

3500k is the consensus standard as of now and works great for both flower and veg. there's room to experiment there so do some research if you want but you don't have to worry too much about spectrum beyond 3500k cxb3590. my tent is 4x4 ft. it's always cool to see hps guys eager to switch to new tech i think there will be a lot of that in the future.

How many is recommended in a 15 x 10' room? You have approx 1 per square foot of plant space, this the number most are going with? I would be looking at roughly 90 of these to replace my 6 1000's in the one room.

this is where you have to balance startup costs and performance goals. my setup with 1 per square foot is pretty maxed out in terms of spread efficiency and intensity (low drive current). the most common and cost effective is to run the cxb3590's at 50w each and something like 2/3 per square foot. as the tech gets better we can drive the cob's at higher current and still get good efficiency, so the new standard cost/performance is more like 62w each which is a 1750ma current driver. you can start off with high current and less per square foot and add more cob's over time.
 
Jewbag ; put the pred mites & their carrier fluff into a open coffee filter or small paper cup or envelope hang a few of these on each plant
don't spread it on the leaf surfaces
that fluff will get into the buds if you don't
 
Is the only disadvantage of running 3070's at 1400ma efficiency? I see 3070's are considerably less money.

You can put the same amount of nrg through the 3070s as the 3590s at the low end at least. Difference is efficiency, for the same amount of electricity used, the 3590 is going to produce more light and less heat. I dont have the exact amounts, but for most users, growing relatively valuable crops, its worth the extra $$$ to get better cobs. If you are producing lettuce for personal use, probably not so much...

bout 12 days left. it's really hard to get decent pics of the canopy. the mites are coming back in places (don't think i was able to keep the predators alive) so I'm gonna chop a little earlier, around day 63. the lights really did a great job of growing dense buds all throughout the 3d canopy.

spider mites dont like to reproduce when they get less then 12 hours of light. They will still be there or they might even go dormant but all your trying to do is buy a little time. For example, vacuum the mites off the plant, clean your plant and drop the light hours to 11 on. It will slow the mites and speed up flowering time. Don't forget to clean the living shit out of your area after harvest.

ok yea that makes sense and is a good idea for me so i just changed my timer to go off 1 hour earlier... thanks a lot. and yeah anything specifically i should do after harvest for cleaning my room? try to vacuum every square inch? i want to do everything i can starting now to ensure i never get mites again, but also just to prevent future outbreaks b/c I think they likely came from my backyard/garden that surround the little building/room my tent is in.

Bleach the room and surrounding areas after harvest, you can hit plants in veg with mighty wash just read up the proper way to use it.

Take better precautions by keeping outdoor shit, outdoor like shoes,clothes,dirty pots,flying insects ect

Try to keep plants healthy, its harder for mites to thrive on healthy plants. They will usually hit the weak ones its just mother nature doing her thing.

Use filters for the flower room intake.

Believe me i fucking hate mites too, wait till you see what they look like at 60x-100x lol nasty fuckers

i struggled like u, lady bugs plain & simple
they be in my environment & yours , better to live with them . dose the yard with lady bug
dose the room as well they will eat up all eggas & leftover mites & any other crawlies then they will leave
keep the pets away from the room & never work in garden & then go directly into the room without changing clothes /washing
most importantly pick strains that don't get eatin up by mites
