Lame Seedling

Hi. I germinated an unknown strain on the Oct 7th 2008, so it has been 7 days since it has come out of the soil. It stands up nice and straight, but the first cannabis leaves are not growing still. I see little nubs where they should be, but they have yet to take their natural form as they just look like two very little prongs in between the round leaves. I have been paying close attention to it and the only differences I have noticed is that the round leaves are becoming more and more purple in color starting at the outer edge of the rounded leaf. I have my plant under two 75w CFL bulbs so that should be ~2200 lms at 13h light /day. Any ideas why it would be acting this way?

first of all thos are just the taproot leaves, you will start to see that the little pointy thngs in between will grow in time,
second of all get yyour light on either 18/6 or 24

I think it could be possible that it is being force-flowered thus altering regular growth traits.

If I were you I would try and get 16-18 hours of light a day (Unless of course your meaning to do this)

Hell if you wanted you could let it grow out til it's sex showed and depending on if its female/male then keep it or throw it out...

a plant will not flower until it is mature enough, thus not allowing a seedling to be forced flower,
he just needs to increase the light schedule to reduce streching

Unless you are going straight into 12/12, the more light the better. The less you give it, or the further away, the more the plant will stretch. Stretched seedlings tend to get top heavy and many damp off (pinch off at the surface)
To answer your question, all symptoms are not enough light related.

See I don't understand why people say use 16 or 24 hours of light because the most sunlight our planet ever sees at one time is 14 and that's in May; at least in my region of the world. I was just trying to mimic the real world as possible, plus the plant I had before this one flourished from the same routine. I think my problem might be temperature. I have this thing sitting next to a window but inside my box which stays a comfortable 75 - 80 degrees F with 50% humidity, however a couple nights ago I went to sleep with the window open and I think the plant got cold. Could that explain the purple tint? The lights are ~4 inches from the top of the plant and the plant is ~2 inches tall. When I germinated the seed I had two candidates, one with a long and skinny root and the other with a short and fat root; I chose the long and skinny root and let it come out of the soil and then transplanted it to a bigger pot; perhaps I shocked it and now it spends its time growing its freakishly long root instead of its leaves?

Defenitely explains the purple tint man, and I think you would still be better of at an 18/6 light cycle (Mostly because thats probably what the original plant that produced the seed was on)

Plus it gives you more light for veg =)

Grrr... I knew it, I froze my baby!! Does it have a chance to live or should I just start digging a grave? Also, I set my timer to 16h as suggested.

No it should be fine, just dont leave anymore windows open =P

Give it a chance, it should still be able to take off... Just keep temps where you mentioned you had em and it will probably be okay

OK, thanks man. Here is what I will do. I will start a new batch of seeds and if it does not shape up by the time they are ready to go in dirt then I am going to give this one back to mother nature. So, that is three to five days and this time I am planting the champion seed directly in my grow pot to avoid shocking it later. This was my second attempt and the first time I killed it with heat, this time with cold. I am hoping the third time will be the one I smoke. =)

yeah i have an unknown bagseed right now 12/12 from seed and there have been a few nights that i left the window open and it got pretty cold. the crazy thing about it was that it only affected one plant that i have. every other one stayed nice and green. i was hoping that i simply came across a nice purple pheno but i highly doubt it. it was probably due to the temp. peace

Trying to mimic nature is a good place to start when you are thinking about why we do some things, but it isn't the end all and be all. Left up to nature, you would spend a long time growing just to get some ditch weed. We are trying to improve on that.

man if i had my veg chamber on for only 14 hours a day my plants would probably try to flower. some say 18/6, some say 20/4 and some say 24/0. some say the few hours of dark in veg will give the plants time to rest. personally ive gotten good results with all three cycles. currently im using 24/0, but i do use cfls for veg. if your running a H.I.D. for veg your not gonna want it on 24/0. since your adjusting the elements use them to their full effect, you'll be happy you did. peace.
