Greetings
I have plenty of 4ft tall plants I was about to trim down to 2.5 ft
And wondered about flowering them either on my 3x6 rolling bakers racks,(maybe 2-4 plants per rack that would be 16-32) or on the floor ...
I have only tried smaller plants in the vert setup and wonder if I could do better with larger ladies...
Room is 14x11 give or take with 7ft ceiling... I have 6 x600s on a light mover that travels 5 ft or so...
Anyone with any experience with large plant vert,I welcome any advice in the matter,I am setting it up today...

well if your trying to grow plants that large you may want to transplant to a 10 gallon bucket.

i was thinking 10 gal pots 16 in a football shape around the lights. I could take out a few shelfs and make each rolling rack a cage for 2 plants x8 ... i dont know if its wise to use all the shelfs as the plants are pretty tall. But 2 per rack would work i believe...

why the foot ball shape, wouldnt you want all your plants an equal distance from the light source? I would think a football pattern would put the centers further from the light then the end plants. since distance equals lumen loss i think your yield would suffer.

I could do straight even rows too,it does make sense. I am in need of feedback from anyone with experience doing vertical tree grow,my friend is pushing for me to ditch the vert idea and to use tables .
I have to set up today and could do 16 or so vert ladies or 4 4x4s of 12 each...but I would need to chop 1.5 ft off plants for the flat option...

Id tell your friend to pipe the hell down lol. I have been doing 600 watt vertical donuts with 8 plants in 3.5 gallon hempy buckets solid for 18 months on a perpetual cycle. I harvest between 2-3 oz per week per plant ( strain dependent). with what you have in lights, id run 3 donuts double stacked lights, 6 plants per 2 stacked lights, vegged to 3 ish feet (strain dependent) in 10 gallon pots. Id leave enough space to get around each donut for watering. Id prune the dark side of the plant, and trim/top side branches to keep the light side canopy even. and i would cut off anything on the bottom 6-12 inches and anything that got with in 18 inches of the bulbs. I would also redesign the light mover and some pulleys to give each set of lights a 6" travel (roughly bulb length). or do away with the mover all together. (sell it to your friend, then CRUSH HIM/HER in yield) lol

Thanks for the tips! How high do the plants finish at in your setup? Do you think the yield will be higher in this fashion vs flat? Do you have a pic of this I can check out ,i am all ears. What's your average yield per light roughly?

The room is 8x7x7.
The light is a a single Solis Tech 600watt with a Ipower Superhps bulb (im cheap) with a cage around the bulb measuring in at 40 inches in diameter.
I bloom 8 plants in 3.5 gallon hempy buckets using Advanced Nutrients 3 part ph perfect line in straight perlite. (4ml each/gal every other watering in tap water with no ph monitoring at all and the perlite is reused after every grow)
2.5 zips average per plants dry. I Veg them to roughly 24 inches, they grow up to around 40 ish.

Now i could increase my plant numbers and proly get better then 2g/watt, but i grow for personal and dont need it. I dont train, top, supercrop, lst. i do trim the plant after stretch to get rid of popcorn and anything growing on the backside of the plant.

I spend roughly 62 bucks a month in nutes bulbs perlite and electricity. I have a end run of roughly 10 oz per month. So at the end my smoke is costing me less then 5 bucks an O. I harvest a plant per week. Any bud from a plant left at the end of the weeks smoking (normally a .75 ounces) gets thrown into a storage container till i have a pound or so then we turn that into concentrates.

One pic here pre screen. (had to put it in due to weight of bud breaking branches)

however, i have a fresh set of seeds coming in for my Bday and a roll of panda film. (c99, Green Machine, White widow) Ill be posting a thread in a few days to cover my new seeds and how I grow in general. But for a minds eye, its a empty room with 8 plants in a circle in the center of it is a cage that's 48" tall x 40"diameter and just sits on the floor with buckets around it. a little fan pointing straight up and the bulb in the center of the plants. the tops of the plants are in line with the top of the socket.

Yes your yield will be much larger then a flat grow. Canopy surface area. here is the stupid graphic that shows it.

Here is an example
