Last questions before January 8

Hi everyone we will not be active on rollitup.org after January 8 as our sponsorship will expire then. This is just a courtesy thread for anyone who is running our lights and wishes to ask any pressing questions before we leave. We can still be contacted via our own website as normal. It will be business as usual but you will not be able to contact us through RIU anymore. I have not been posting here much lately as things have been busy and so the decision has been made to focus on the business.

Thank you for everyone's support over the years. I hope you have all learned as much as we have and good luck to all you growers! I am hoping all our info will still be accessible for future reference if anyone needs it.

So very sorry to see you go! Unlike almost all vendors who participate in cannabis fora, you actively participated and didn't push/pimp your products with every post. Glad the business is going so well and if I was in Australia, I would definitely purchase your products.

Actually, i do have a question, to what extent are the strips water proof? I know you can spray with them but can you splash down the light with a hose?

I know you rec liquid electric tape on the solder points but will standard electric tape work aswell? The liquid stuff seems hard to source around here.

Would you recommend the Deep Red as well as the Far Red Buddies if used with 3000K Samsung LM561C?

Hi Rocket Soul the strips are fully coated with a conformal coating which makes them very waterproof. I have a photo here somewhere to show you how waterproof they are. The reason we use liquid electrical tape on the connector wire solder joints on the strips is because the conformal coating is a mix of silicon and acrylic so it has a degree of flexibility but it will crack if you bend it too much. This is not a problem on a flat PCB or soldered LED because there is no flexing stress on those parts. But the connector wires can be bent and the coating will be compromised, so we add an extra layer of liquid electrical tape to allow the wires to bend without breaking the waterproof seal. If you can't find liquid electrical tape you can use a dab of silicon or even epoxy or waterproof glue. You only need it around the solder joint and the start of the outer wire sheath. These are the areas that require resealing below.

The 660nm and 730nm Buddies were originally designed to fill the gap in typical CRI80 white LED lights that don't have a lot of deep red and almost no far red. They were designed to compliment lights like yours. But there are things you need to consider. Buddies have diffuser lenses that spread the light almost 180 degrees. That is good for side-lighting and can also be good if you run your lights very close to the tops of the plants. But if your lights are further away this can lead to more wall losses. With Far Red light this is not so bad because even with the wide beam angle it will still penetrate as it bounces off the walls and through leaves and goes deeper into the canopy. You also do not need as much Far Red light to see results and we usually recommend 5-10% Far Red to see the benefits. Deep Red light in the 660nm region is beneficial because it is very active and the 660nm diodes are very efficient. The diffuser lenses do impact efficiency but the 660nm diodes are over 4 umol/j so in my opinion are always worth adding to grows that need more red light. The question is now what strains do you run? Reducing the amount of blue in the spectrum will lead to more internodal distance or stretch. Some varieties respond well to this as it allows more light to penetrate deeper into the canopy. But some varieties already stretch a lot. It is worth remembering that HPS is around 2200K so has very little blue light in it. If you add 660nm to 3000K white you will reduce the CCT to around 2700K which is a good flowering spectrum but you may see a little more stretch. But I would expect your yields to increase especially with the addition of Far Red. 730nm light will not affect CCT as much because it is getting outside the visible spectrum.

Thank you very much coreywebster. I have enjoyed being here and reading your posts too. I was not an active community member before I set up the company and joined RIU but I have learned a lot from you guys. I did grow indoor plants myself a long time ago but it can be very stressful here and I gave up for my family. I have to be careful what I say to people in the shop and in public because of the laws here so I have to play it straight. I will still be dropping by to read your posts and to continue learning as the industry evolves. We live in exciting times and it is my hope that one day Australia will fall in line with Canada and most US states and other countries around the world. We do have lights in a legal medicinal cannabis farm now in Victoria Australia and so it is also my hope that we can go down this track but it costs a lot of money to set up a legal grow In Australia because of all the regulation and strict conditions.

OK thanks for that. I currently have a very stable setup that has repeatedly produced consistent results for about a dozen cycles now so it will be interesting to see any differences when I add some 660/730 reds.

Even though I am in the US and realized just how costly the High Lights are I still would have loved to have some here but the HLG product has always been good to me...
I am right there with Mr Corey on every point.
He's been a fine steward for the High Lights because they are a fantastic product and Prawn Connery is (or should be) very proud of the (one of or the very) best LED panels out there - BAR NONE!
I'll surely miss you guys too and I think you might want to create another user name for yourself to set apart from the company - GLA will always be somewhat legendary and the appreciation seems to be coming forth in this thread.
(Sunni can probably make it so.)

You are welcome to come back and post when you have time (ANY time) and I understand that family MUST always come first and the work usually is right after that priority.

If I was o'er to the great outback I'd certainly sign up for a tester position! I have faith that Australia will eventually come around to the rec side and relax the current regulation s but anything government takes time lumbering along for changes.

We all loved all the informative posts on the technical information rather than the typical bro science noise you guys have been so good at filtering out.

Not many of us DIY fixture guys are around still because it's always a I'm getting the "cheaper" one battle buying the cheapest hot asian crap instead.
Put in all the research and work and watch them make a crummy knock off? Sounds about right...
I'd build a bunch more for others if they would look beyond the price tag, but you know better than most people how that goes.

Excellent; exactly the info i wanted: hosing it down while board is turned on. Im going to use silicon, easy peasy.

I dont post here a ton but I have to say I have really enjoyed your posts and information, I want to thank you and led teknik as well as rocket soul for giving me a ton of info and confidence in led's, real information I could trust instead of marketing, so I could sucessfully make the switch and I havent looked back. I am sure there are many, many people like me out there who have benefitted from your work and I hope all that good karma takes yall to the moon!!
